I have a k750i and a gmail account, i can check my mail fine from the k750 mail client. But i cant send mails... Whenever i try it says "Sending e-mail" for a while, maybe 5-6 minutes, then it stops and just says "Unable to send mail".

Whats wrong?

I think i have everything setup properly:
Connect Using: TeliaSurfPort
Protocol: POP3
Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com
Incoming Port: 995
Encryption: TLS/SSL
Mailbox: Myaccount@gmail.com
Password: Mypassword
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing Port: 465
Email Address: Myemail@gmail.com
Download: Headers & text
Copy Outgoing: Off
Check Interval: Off

All the settings look ok - try going to the Sony Ericsson configurer and resend "email" settings for Telia - then use the received "connect with" and try again.

Posted by gojnik064
Dont you also need to have smtp authentication? I have it enabled in profimail and sending works fine.

Posted by tommydl
There are no options for "smtp authentication" on my k750i

Posted by gojnik064
Well, then try using your gsm operator smtp server instead of gmails. Just change in tha account settings.

Posted by tommydl
Ok, i got it working, there really was an option for turning on the encryption for the smtp server (missed this the first time), and now it works! Thanks!

Posted by englishmanabroad
Sounds like you have already set up authenticated SMTP as you do both TLS/SSL settings to start with. Are you sure however that "Teliasurfport" is the correct connection to use? For example- I have different settings for email and web browsing on both Orange and O2 -

Posted by gojnik064
Ok, great.

Posted by englishmanabroad
pleased to hear What's really neat with gmail through the K750i is that sent items from your phone are stored in your Gmail sent folder - cool!!

I'm using the following settings:
Connect Using: O2 WAP GPRS
Protocol: POP3
Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com
Incoming Port: 995
Encryption: TLS/SSL
Mailbox: Myaccount@gmail.com
Password: *********
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing Port: 465
Email Address: Myemail@gmail.com
Download: Headers & text
Copy Outgoing: Off
Check Interval: Off

... and all I'm getting is "Server not found";
I've double-checked the settings... any ideas?

Posted by KopStar
FYI I also checked out howardforums for the settings and they match up

What's the difference between Myaccount@gmail.com and Myemail@gmail.com?
Same problem... it keeps on looking for the server.

Posted by Grimslade
Mine used to work, but now I get:

Encryption error, TLS/SSL unknown certificate authority.

When I try to send. it receives fine. I've got R1N. Since it used to work, I don't know if it's firmware-related or not (though I hesitate to mention that...).

Anyone else have this problem?

Posted by doggie99
it is not firmware based because i still have r1a firmware and i am getting the same error as you grimslade

Posted by m0nkiii
how do i get the certificate from gmail? when i do the file -> properties -> certificates -> it says there is none

What to do for gmail work with Telia GPRS. I just get "Encrption error, TSL/SSL unknown certificate authority" all the time

and what's the difference between Myaccount@gmail.com and Myemail@gmail.com? none ?

I also had the Encryption Error problem. I, however, had to do a full flash from davinci (errors with a firmware upgrade), but for me it wasn't working before that. But checking Settings/Connectivity/Internet Settings/Security/Trusted Cert., I didn't have any. So I tracked down the ones I think I needed. I got them from http://www.thawte.com/roots/, and sent ThawtePremiumServerCA.cer and ThawteServerCA.cer over to the K750i over bluetooth. They were recognized as certificates and placed in the appropriate area. And then it worked. I did some testing, and it seems like you need both certificates to get it to work. Also, you need to send them to the phone, you can't just place them on the Memory Stick, they won't get recognized as certificates.

hi ther,
i had the same problems with the emailclient on my K750i.
i managed to solve them.
my provider is orange and i use gprs.

first of all i downloaded the internet-settings via the orange website.

the rest of the settings:

Connect Using: internet (account via orange gedownload)
Protocol: POP3
Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com
Incoming Port: 995
Encryption (incoming): TLS/SSL
Mailbox: Myaccount@gmail.com
Password: Mypassword
Outgoing Server: smtp.orange..nl
Outgoing Port: 465
Encryption (outgoing):none
Email Address: Myemail@gmail.com
Download: Headers & text
Copy Outgoing: Off
Check Interval: Off

to make things clear :Myaccount@gmail.com and Myemail@gmail.com are my gmail-adress and is one and the same.

hope to help someone

its a pay and go issue not a settings issue...

Posted by berlioze
PAYG O2 and Orange users can't use email on Sony Ericsson's anymore.

Posted by Leviath
O2 PAYG never could....

fascists

Yeah, gmail worked just fine'n'dandy until i flashed R1L-->R1N. Now "Encrption error, TSL/SSL unknown certificate authority".

Maybe I´ll try that certificate thing later

I can receive Gmail but I can't send.

I have a Sony Ericsson D750i and it's firmware is R1N035 and my provider is T-Mobile UK.

Connect Using: T-Mobile GPRS
Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com
Incoming Port: 995
Encryption: TLS/SSL
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com

With outgoing port set to 465 this happens;
"Finding server" for about 5 seconds then...
"Server found" for about 1 second then...
"Sending email" for about 1 second then...
"Encryption error, TLS/SSL unknown certificate authority"

With outgoing port set to 587 this happens;
"Finding server" for about 5 seconds then...
"Server found" for about 1 second then...
"Sending email" forever - it just seems to stall here until you press 'Cancel'.

I think 587 is for SSL, while 465 is for TSL - anyway, neither of them work.

I've tried using a few different data account and they don't seem to make any difference to the sending Gmail problem.

I've also tried upgrading the firmware from a version before R1N035 but this didn't make any difference either.

I have enabled POP access on Gmail. Interestingly I still got the "wrong mailbox or password" error for a few hours after I enabled POP in Gmail - so this Gmail setting obviously takes some time to take effect - don't expect it to take effect immediately as implied.

Someone suggested it might be a certificate problem. The following certificates are listed under Settings/Connectivity/Internet settings/Security/Trusted cert.
Verisign
VeriSign WTLS
Baltimore WTLS
Entrust WTLS
Verisign
Baltimore
Entrust.net Root
GlobalSign
Thawte
Sony Ericsson E2E
VeriSign Class 3

I can't use the Sony Ericsson E-mail Configurator as Gmail is not listed as an "Incoming E-mail Server""

Someone else suggested it might be my operator blocking all outgoing ports except their own smtp ports (to reduce SPAM). This seems the most likely root cause but I dread to think how difficiult it would be to (a) find someone at T-Mobile that understands the problem, and (b) get them to do something about it.

If the blocking of port numbers is the source of the problem then maybe if enough of us made enough noise we could get the operators to open the port up.

If anyone has some more information about this problem or another suggestion for me to try to fix then I would be very very grateful.

Posted by Leviath
my theory is that operators are blocking only PAY&GO or pre pay mobile only... I have tried a contract O2 K750i and it worked both on R1L002 and R1N035...with you guessed gmail... I upgraded it last nite for a mate and all was working fine...

Hi, phone is fine, just need correct outgoing smtp details from your provider. For O2
smtp.o2.co.uk
port 25
No encryption

Had the same error, did some research, sorted. Most providers have automated setup for other email providers (like their own), get the setting and check the outgoing details, add that to you Gmail settings.
Hope it helps.
Regards
G

What are the correct outgoing smtp details for T-Mobile UK?

Posted by mbk971
Ok, definetly Certificate problem, just fixed it.
Downloaded the Thawte zip file from their site, address is up somewhere in this threat. Check your phone ( mine is W800i) certificates, mine had already had the ThawteServerCA, then I unziped the file and found the"ThawtePremiumServerCA" send it to phone by bluetooth, it regonized it, and installed it.

Then set up the gmail as it was stated, boom it worked.

For the guys, u do not wanna go that way, here is previous solution. I was using Tmobiles server to reach to my Gmail. Just set up your email in the Mytmobile page, and then using the settings wizzard of SE ( Not GPRS or Picture Messaging, choose e-mail) , send your "email" settings to ur phone. ( u will chose , US, Tmobile, ur number)

Here is the link that I found,
http://home.earthlink.net/~dasilva333/gmail%20settings.JPG

actually I spent 20 mins searching howard forums and other thats how I found it. Tried and boom, this one works too.

I hope this helps, both of them are working for me. I just made a test.
Good night.

@mbk :
thanks for info, very helpful! i managed to get it to work updating the certificate from thwate website!!

I couldnt do it via the Tmboile mail option!..

Posted by mightyfo
please can someone email me the zip file witht the thawte certificate. The link no longer works!!!!!

Thanks, and happy thanksgiving!

Posted by Beep
google thawtepremiumserverca.cer - you should find a URL (edu) then bluetooth it to your phone.

Posted by mightyfo
what if i can't bluetooth it to my phone

Posted by Beep
It'll probably just copy to your phone as a file and get stored in the "Other" folder...

...it won't get installed (didn't with me anyway)...

...so it'll need to go via Bluetooth(BT)...

...I bought a Belkin Version 2.0 + EDR (Class 1 (£25) but Class 2 (£20) will do) Bluetooth USB adapter and it works well.

You could also try:

Your phone to someones phone

and then

their phone to yours (as long as it doesn't install to theirs first )

I didn't find a site that would allow OTA (over the air) type of installation but I would have thought there must be one...

Posted by Gren
Just use the cable and it'll ask you to install as soon as it's copied. Worked for me anyway and my Gmail connection is working both ways.

Posted by mightyfo
my gmail is now finally working both ways. I didn't even install the certificate it just started work all of a sudden. Thankeveryone for your help!!!!! my phone kicks ass now!

How did you install this certificate? I tried to install it via the usb-cable that comes with the phone and installed all things from the CD-rom and I only can install things in the filemanager you know the pictures, themes etc! But I couldn't open it when I installed it to the map "Others", it didn't even have a option to open that file. What Bluetooth do you got? I have a MSI Bluetooth.

Posted by Flame2k
I'm owning I am the only one in the whole world that can imagine how to install this certificate via the usb-cabla and cd-rom that comes in the box! YEAH!

Posted by Gren
Don't put the file in others put it in the root directory of the phone through the file manager

Hi Guys try this out

Download the file from

http://www.verisign.com/support/thawte-roots.zip

Extract the file thawte.zip and look in for ThawtePremiumServerCA and send it through to bluetooth it will work fine.

I downloaded that zip with certificates .. i put on the phone via bluetooth but the i don't have install option ... only send i also tried with the cable ..same thing ..can any1 tell what 2 do ?

Posted by prabu
Use the the Object Push option under bluetooth services to transfer the certificate.

Posted by fr3e2sm0k3
prabu thx .. i managed it with object push ..but i also needed geotrust certificate so for all that still have a problem with the certificates download from here : http://free-ftp.org/free2smoke/cer.zip are 3 files inside the zip ... use object push to install them on your phone and gmail should work
