Does any one have any idea how to get serial working on the fastport? I got this info off the web.
1. USB +5V
2. headphones common
3. SWITCH, microphone +
4. SWITCH, microphone -
5. Left
6. right
7. n.c.
8. with the FSE with GND short circuit, USB cable - open. (1k? resistor to GND(pin 9) -> serial)
9 GND (longer contact)
10. USB data (Serial data Rx (to phone))
11. USB data (Serial data Tx (from phone))
12. +5V from the battery charger.
Varring the resistance on accross 8-9 definitly changes the operating mode.
Short = hands free
4.7K = MXE-60 Flash
1k? = generic?
I know that the MXE-60 uses serial AT commands to talk to the phone. It says it in the AT command reference. I was told that a 1k resistor was all that you need to get power and com going, but I've had no luck.
Any thoughts?

what are you trying to achieve? Varying the resistance to pins 8-9 tells the phone what type of accessory is attached and the phone changes profile depending on that.
The usb cable doesn't prompt a profile change (other than to charge the battery)

I work for a company that makes barcode scanner attachments for cell phones. We use the AT commands to push menus and data to the phone over a serial connection. I know the serial TTL interface still exists, so I just want to enable it, change a command here and there, and slap the new connector on the scanner. Not having much luck though. I was just trying to solder a couple extra wires onto the MXE-60 so I could snoope the communication and I got solder all over the place. Its gonna be a fun one to clean up.

hmmm, okay, well the fastport usb cable sets up a serial connection and doesn't seem to change profile - have you tried just sending data on pin 10 and seeing if the phone receives it?

Definitly tried that. You also need (well will eventually need, if you want power from the phone) to place some sort of load accross 8 and 9 to enable Vbat on pin 12. I've thrown all sorts of AT commands at the phone with out even a single bit in return. I'd be very happy if I got an ERROR response at this point.
The reason I know I'm doing something wrong is that with the old connector, the phone would raise its TX line. This is part of the RS232 style standard. This way you know if the line was cut or just disconnected. I've tried using 47K pull up as well with no improvement.

can't help much more than that. Just out of curiosity, and probably won't help at all, but can you send the at commands from a computer (via the virtual com for the usb connection) and does the phone recieve it?

I am doing the same research !
I also got to make the phone handsfree, and I will try going on with the variying resistance.
One or two things I want to tell you.
1. I am so so happy I am not alone here, and that others are trying to get to my goal and it is great !
2. Try sending an AT-command that requires no answer from the phone, one that you KNOW that works using the USB connection.
For example I am using AT+CKPD="2"
this way, I know that if the phone got the command, it would type the number 2 on the screen, it frees me off the RX leg.

3. Try varying baud rates ! also disconnect and reconnect for each try
Together we can nail the bastard !

I don't think K750 supports the RS232 interface - only virtual serial (USB)

the fact that SE don't list RS232 as a supported connectivity option on either their website or the K750 whitepaper. RS232 support is listed for phones with the older style connector, but not fastport based phones.

yes but it lists RS232 support for the old style connector based phones, so why list it for fastport phones (unless it doesn't have it)?
Also, the Whitepaper is considered to have all the technical specifications of the phone. If it doesn't mention RS232 support anywhere (which it doesn't), then it's quite unlikely that it has it.
