Hi,

we all knew from Eldar that the C905/Shiho uses the same cam module as a mysterious "8150". Now this phone gets pictured thanks to someone in Hungary or at Mobile-Review, source is not that clear.
The source states it is a i8510, so I named the thread as this.

The i8510 features the well-known 8.0 megapixels, Symbian S60 OS, HSDPA, WiFi, GPS, a huge 2.8" screen with 16 mio colours, DivX support, TV out, a dedicated 3D chip, the optical mouse featured in i780 & i900, 8/16GB storage and a 1200mAh battery in a 106.5 x 53.9 x 16.9 mm metal casing.

The specs look really awesome!

Posted by razec
16Gb and Divx - those things will set this in front of C905 - well lets see what else is there

Posted by gola
The C905 might be in trouble, great looking phone too...

Not to forget VGA video (even with 120fps recording)...

Most Samsung phones were looking very good although the back side of this phone was something retro :| and it doesn't appear nice compared to C905's T-series style back. jusdging by the 8150's back it seems like the camera lens cover is automatic as i can't see any switch beside the lens.

ill defo take a look at this when its released......

looks like stereo speakers on the back?

just hope the loud speaker isnt in the same place as speaker used for phone calls like previous samsung phones. could never hear the bl**dy phones ring

Posted by Yakkaimono
Seems like it also has DLNA.

Posted by >500
not too sure if i like the back of this.......

rest looks good!

what was the focal length of the c905? was it 5.9? i see here its 5.7

Posted by JC08
Well, I think this spells it for se, I would certainly rather buy this than c905!

indeed, considering it's a symbian phone and is very functionally similar to N96 only with divx, 8mp and a brand new SCH-B600/U900 like casing

Posted by QVGA
Flawless IMO.
Whats it running? doesnt look like S60 at all

Posted by Yakkaimono
As stated it uses S60. Samsung changed the looks of it so that it matches their style. If they didn't it would look to much like a Nokia with a different housing.

Posted by Dextrr
Killer specs and S60 all dressed in metal = Pure classic beauty! I really hope it's announced and released soon.

Posted by NightBlade
Bah, it looks ugly.

Posted by jjjajjj
If they uses the same cam model, why there are different in lans dimensions ?

And can someone tell me why Samsung always try very hard to COPY Specifications from other companies ?

like this one , It is a mix from the C905 , N96 & LG Viewty

Posted by S4k1s
Beautiful.

Posted by banyu
wow,
best symbian so far (with divx and 8MP maybe this samsung has better processor than N96)
but of course,
the price will be high,
higher than C905 or even X1.

Posted by NightBlade
Despite everything, the C905 is a flagship feature phone, while this Samsung one is a flagship smartphone. This one is bound to cost much more than the C905 (me thinks).
Also, it's much larger than the C905, will probably have bad battery life and its screen has bad pixel density (a la N95 8GB).

Aw, you know me, always with the disclaimers.

Posted by xell
According to Eldar, it will cost the same or will be slightly cheaper than C905. I guess that means something around 550€ to C905's 590€.

Posted by crossmatched
hope releases UIQ cybershot with the same c905 cam module

Posted by Dextrr
Nighblade:

Dude, let it be released before you comment on the "pixel density" and "bad battery". It might be a little longer and wider (due to the 2.8' screen) but it's thinner than the porky C905!!!!!!!

I'd rather have an average 16m big screen over a small 262k great screen anyday. 262k is sooooo 2005.

it's like N96 and LG viewty in one body...is samsung running out of design??

Well just do the math, the screen's obiously QVGA and a 2.8" diagonal would have the pixels stretched a tad too much.
As for the battery life, well, the housing is a bit too thin to contain a reasonably powerful battery (considering all the things it needs to power and all the things already in the housing). And besides, Samsung's rarely been that good with battery life.

Posted by xironghostx
Well done Samsung.

Byebye Sonyericsson...

Posted by sunSEt_
A really hard competitor for Shiho!

Posted by djin
@Nightblade
Its got 1200mah battery. that would give good battery life.

Posted by QVGA
Dont you know nightblade was the one who designed this phone? HE knows the ins and outs, more specifically the "math" part of the phone. He judges battery life by the thinness of the housing and screen quality by the size of the display.
My W950 is thinner and its got a reasonable battery, so first use, then complain.
Seriously dude, give it up. You're now crossing into the plankgatan territory.

This sounds REALLY great. All the pluses of C905 with added DivX support, 3d chip, bigger screen and, to top it all, it's a smartphone. I really see no reason to buy the C905 anymore.

You are wrong on so many fronts it's not even funny.

1: "the screen's obiously QVGA" --> Obviously? It doesn't say anywhere it's QVGA or VGA. Your assuming there.

2: "the housing is a bit too thin to contain a reasonably powerful battery" --> Your fat 20mm C905 has a 930 mAh while the Samsung is only 16.5mm and has a 1200 mAh.

3:"Samsung's rarely been that good with battery life." --> Any concrete proof for that?

It's ok not to like other brands and worship blindly SE but making up misleading and false facts about a handset without any substantial proofs is kinda dumb.

PS: How do you feel about SE using Samsung's cam module in their flagship phone?

Posted by Janbobejan
Hmmm . . . I haven't visited esato for a week or so and already a new 'king' is rumored Can it focus while video recording? And what about wimax? Wifi is sort of outdated by now. Nevertheless a nice move from Samsung. Now lets wait for Nokia's answer - be assured,it will come before this phone hits the market I love it - nice times we are living in. A pity SE is not up there anymore Let's hope Plankgatan does not see the last sentence.

Well its specs are impressive, but I think the C905 looks a lot better. The C905 has a beautiful clean design, while this looks a bit cluttered. What really spoils this phone is the back. They've stamped a logo on the back for just about every feature it has, and that's ugly.

Doesn't look too bad from the front though. It certainly beats the C905 specwise.

Posted by troublesam
OMG!!! the N96 has been cloned!!! LOL!

Is that an LED flash?

Mate more than C905 has xenon flash, but Samsung i8510 only LED flash !!!!

According to mobilenet it's video recording is only QVGA, but at 120fps.

I think there has been a mistake. If SE and samsung share the same cam module, how cuome the focal lengths are different??

As far as i know, each of the prototypes use different modules to guarantee the best piece available.

Actually, I've been watching Stargate Atlantis, TYVM.

dont care to respond to the comments?

Posted by Shuuro
@se_dude, eldar has mentioned that the samsung has used lens from their digital camera lineup and perhaps this explains different focal length.

The focal length doesn't directly decide the sensor type or size. Focal length controls how wide or narrow the image projected on the sensor will be. Shorter focal length means wide angle so if you have a very thin camphone with a very large sensor then you get photos that look like this:

(Hot Shots Walleye Vision.)

Here's something from GSM Arena:
The official announcement of this multimedia monster is expected to come somewhere around mid-August and the price tag is rumored to be about 780 euro.

...Ahem?

is that all you can reply? what about your stupid stretched pixels and bad battery claims? seriously though night blade, you're more pathetic than i initially thought.

Posted by NightBlade
I don't remember who posted it but one of you said that it would cost as much or even less than the C905. I'm just disproving that statement.

Look, now, I'm not saying that it's not a great phone or anything, just that it's not without its "flaws" (i.e. the lack of xenon flash, smaller focal length etc...)

Posted by weirdwilli
With all your arguing i think you've forgotten that these phones have slightly differant target audiences...
the Samsung is definately more of a high end, new generation of smartphone. while i'd say the C905 is more of a camera phone with a few extra features, like WiFi.
Also im going to predict that both phones will not turn out as awesome as they look in paper, which is fair enough for 'the first phones with a xxxx' in so many areas.

Posted by bavlondon2
Wow so even now the C905 is back at the bottom of the 8mp pile.

Give it up nightblade. The G810 had a 120mah battery and im sure this will have a similar capacity battery and are you going to argue that a screen shouldnt be beyond 2.6 inches becasue of bad desnity? Blah blah blah.

Why dont you just admit that your precious C905 has been trumped before its even released. We havent even seen Nokias 8Mp offering yet and thats going to be announced right before the C905 ships and will also ship at the same time.

SE loses again....
