BEST THREAD 2009 BEST POST 2009 THIS 2009 THREAD IS CLOSED! CATCH UP WITH SONY ERICSSON IN 2010 WITH SE_LOVE RIGHT HERE! In this thread you will find all the exciting details of Sony Ericsson's 2009 mobile phone and accessory portfolio. This includes any upcoming announcement dates, spy pictures and even a bit of Japanese goodness! But of course, your best source for Japanese phone information is Clauf's Keitai Corner thread. We rely on information from informed members and unofficial websites, so anything written in this thread must not be taken for the truth until it is confirmed by Sony Ericsson themselves on announcement day. This thread and the information inside it is entirely unofficial. Please don't raise your expectations too high because, as 2008 showed us, phones can be canceled even when their announcement date is about to hit! I would like to thank Goldenface for the huge effort he made on The All New Sony Ericsson Portfolio for 2008. His work to keep the thread up to date ensured that everyone had an excellent place to find information on all the excitement and disappointment that was Sony Ericsson in 2008. So a huge thanks goes to Goldenface from all of us I'm sure, and hopefully he will still be able to visit us in 2009! You can use the following quick links to get to the information you want quickly:

The very latest information to hit the thread. It will be updated as soon as the news happens! 22rd November 2009 Eldar at Mobile Review has put up a review of Kurara somewhat unfairly, since it is a prototype and hasn't even been announced (so is in the alpha stage). Take the review with a grain of salt, but enjoy what you can. See in thread 22rd November 2009 A video sample from a Kurara prototype has been uploaded on Youtube. The quality is passable but quite obviously still in development. See it under Spy-shots below! See in thread 18th November 2009 Kurara has received more leaks. They don't really tell us much new but it is nice to see more images. See them in Spy-shots. See in thread 3rd November 2009 Kurara has been leaked again. This time more clearly. Among its interesting aspects is an HD badge on the back next to the camera and a different looking design. See it in Spy-shots below. See in thread 3rd November 2009 X10 is official. Most of the specs we heard are there, although 32GB internal and Android 2.0 were the most obviously absent. The Snapdragon, beautiful user interface and so on are all there. See in thread 30th October 2009 Sony Ericsson themselves have given us a teaser video for Rachael, noting that November 3 is the date. The video posted on their Youtube account shows Rachael in white from many different angles, but it shows no interface or close up detail. The video can be seen here. We now know Rachael is confirmed! See in thread 26th October 2009 Mizzle has revealed via his new blog that we will see Rachael on November 3. Rachael, like Kiki, has a special name. For Kiki it was Pureness, and for Rachael it is Infinity. See in thread 21st October 2009 Another image of Susan has leaked out, this time providing us with a screenshot with an as yet unknown interface. This screenshot looks a lot like the screenshots we have seen from Rachael, so it could be Android. It could also be A3, but then maybe it's Symbian. It is unclear whether it is a touchscreen but it seems unlikely due to the fact the screen appears to be only 2.2". Interestingly it was named Sunny when leaked, causing confusion as to which name belongs to which phone. For now we will use their originally leaked names. See in thread 15th October 2009 A new picture of Rachael has surfaced, which can of course be seen in Spy-shots. Also, Maximys over at SEMC Blog has stated that we should see an announcement of Rachael in November. He also says it will have a Snapdragon, but remember this should still be taken as rumour. See in thread 12th October 2009 This thread has won best thread and best post of 2009 in the Esato Awards MMIX! See award thread 7th October 2009 We have been shown a few new renders of some generic looking handsets. Susan, a waterproof candybar phone with a sister named Sunny, also waterproof, but a slider. Both 3D renders can be seen in Spy-shots. See in thread 5th October 2009 SEMC Blog has leaked a generic looking candybar handset which looks rather plain. See it in Spy-shots. See in thread 5th October 2009 We have a very grainy image of Kurara, which is supposedly a Symbian handset (Kokoro = Symbian, so Kurara = Symbian). See it in Spy-shots. See in thread 5th October 2009 We hear of another Android handset named Robyn (Rachael = Android, so Robyn - Android). See in thread 21st September 2009 Sony Ericsson has announced a set of motion activated headphones. They play when you put them in your ears and pause when you pull one out. Call controls are the same. They are named MH-907. See in thread 19th September 2009 A few new codenames are now known. Kurara and Samba were the two names to spark the most interest with insiders. See in thread 3rd September 2009 Kiki is to be known as XPERIA Pureness. Sony Ericsson have shown us some stunning promotional pictures in a half-announcement, much like they introduced us to Idou. It appears to run a simplified monochrome (white) A2 on its transparent screen, and has very basic specs. See in thread 2nd September 2009 X2 is official! Featuring all the specifications we've heard, plus a few more. Still no word on CPU speed yet. See in thread 31st August 2009 It sounds as though the announcement rumoured for Wednesday 2nd of September will only include Vulcan. See in thread 24th August 2009 There may be an announcement in September. This may include both Reese and Vulcan, as Vulcan at least is expected to be on sale by the end of this year. See in thread 12th August 2009 Sony Ericsson has announced Jalou, a supposedly stylish clamshell with mediocre features, aimed more at females. There is also a Dolce&Gabbana version with real Gold accents. Jalou was previously known to us as Bao. See in thread 8th July 2009 The_laser at Se-nse has given us yet more to cheer about in the form of new images of both Kiki and Rachael, and a stunning video of Rachael's Sony Ericsson Android user interface. See it all in Spy-shots! See in thread 5th July 2009 Another leak originating on Se-nse, we have now been shown a low/mid end clamshell codenamed Bao with Nokia Prism-esque styling. No specifications are known, but the design is very debatable. See in thread 5th July 2009 Apparently Twiggy is still canceled, unfortunately. See in thread 4th July 2009 More of Rachael has been leaked including a new image which shows the sides, and a few new specifications including a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. We also see Kiki, an oddly styled phone with an interesting screen to say the least! See in thread 4th July 2009 Two new leaks: From Mr. PeterKay we get images of Twiggy, the successor to the W350i, and originally from Se-nse we have a rendered image of "Rachael" supposedly an Android phone. See them in Spy-shots. We can also add the names Nashi, Oru and Kami to our codename list. See in thread 25th June 2009 Sony Ericsson have announced the T715. It is a 'stylish' version of the W595, but has a lot of design similarities with the Orange exclusive W595s. See in thread 10th June 2009 More Vulcan images leaked, this time in silver. Hit up Spy-shots for a look. Note that it is believed that the specifications shown on screen are yet to be confirmed for production examples. See in thread 5th June 2009 According to a leaked FCC confidentiality document, there may be an announcement around June 16. See in thread 5th June 2009 Vulcan has been leaked again, this time with higher resolution images, posted on the fanklub.se forums. We now can see that it has an 8.1MP camera and an LED flash. It is rumoured to run Windows Mobile 6.5. See it in Spy-shots. See in thread 4th June 2009 Sony Ericsson has announced the C901 Greenheart and another candybar simply named Naite. Both are part of Sony Ericsson's new Greenheart strategy which focuses on making mobile phones greener. Naite is a very basic candybar and the C901 Greenheart is the same as the regular C901 in terms of specs, although it only comes in one colour: white. Both phones will come with greener chargers, electronic user manuals on board the phone (rather than paper in box) and are made from greener materials. See in thread 4th June 2009 An image of a phone codenamed Vulcan has leaked out. It appears to be a successor to the XPERIA X1, and engadget has called it the X2. It appears to share the X1's form and looks to run Windows Mobile as well. See it in the Spy-shots section below. See in thread 3rd June 2009 The first Greenheart eco phone has just been leaked out. It is a standard candybar design with very little to distinguish itself as an eco phone. Specs are unknown as yet. See in thread 2nd June 2009 The new range is going to be Greenheart eco phones. See in thread 1st June 2009 The announcement on the 4th is due to include a brand new range of phones (in a similar vein to the Cyber-shot or XPERIA ranges). According to Mobile Review there will be nothing high end announced. See in thread 28th May 2009 Sony Ericsson has announced Idou's real name. It is to be named Satio and is due in Q4. New specifications learned were VGA video recording and a 16 million colour screen. Along with Satio came Aino, an 8 megapixel slider phone with limited touch screen capabilities in the media menus. Among the new features, it was announced that Aino also supports remote play with the PlayStation 3. Yari was also announced. It is a 5 mega pixel slider with gesture controlled games and various music features. These three phones all come under the Entertainment Unlimited umbrella. See in thread 23rd May 2009 According to a Sony Ericsson employee, the company is preparing phones running on Android 2.0 which supposedly has better multimedia support than version 1.0. The employee, Peter Ang, also stated that Sony Ericsson would continue to release handsets running Windows Mobile, Symbian and Android. See in thread 7th April 2009 Sony Ericsson has announced the unimpressive W205 and S312 low end phones. They also announced the MS410 speaker accessory. See in thread 5th April 2009 A previously unheard of Sony Ericsson CS8 has been mentioned in some T-Mobile documentation. The 8 could stand for 8 mega pixels, or something high end perhaps 8gb. Interesting to note what may be a new naming scheme too, although it may be a simple renaming of existing phones that will appear on T-Mobile, for example the C905 on T-Mobile may be the CS8. The T-Mobile document lists the CS8 as arriving on the 24th of June which suggests an announcement date can't be far away if indeed it is a new phone model. See in thread 26th March 2009 The T707 has now been officially announced. See in thread 8th March 2009 The T707 (Elle) clamshell phone has been leaked. Images can be seen in the Spy-shots section. See in thread 15th February 2009 Mobile World Congress Revealed by the company, but not officially announced just yet was Sony Ericsson's Idou phone. This phone is still in the concept stages and will be announced in Q2, for a release in the second half of this year. Idou is part of the new Entertainment Unlimited brand and features a 12Mp camera, 3.5" 16:9 wide touchscreen, among other impressive specs. It looks to run on the Symbian Foundation platform. See in thread 15th February 2009 Mobile World Congress Sony Ericsson have revealed a new brand named Entertainment Unlimited, which focuses on three things: the blending of the Cyber-shot and Walkman brands, sharing of content, and integration with other electronics within the home. See in thread 15th February 2009 Mobile World Congress Sony Ericsson have finally announced Hikaru, now named the W995. The specifications mirror those of the C905, but with a few added Walkman features such as a 3.5mm jack, music controls and Clear Audio. It has a larger 2.6" screen, video call camera, and kickstand which improve over the C905. See in thread 15th February 2009 Mr. PeterKay has given us look at an upcoming SE swivel phone named Reese. G1-like in appearance, the phone is said to be aimed at the youth market. It can be seen under Spy-shots. See in thread 10th February 2009 The Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C901 (Filippa), the Cyber-shot C903 (Frances) and the Walkman W395 (Yao) have been announced. See in thread 9th February 2009 More leaked pictures of the W395 are in the Spy-shots section. See in thread 9th February 2009 Hikaru has been leaked by SEMC Blog. See in thread 27th January 2009 There are apparently three new XPERIA devices in development. One is set to be the X1 successor. See in thread 27th January 2009 Sony Ericsson is expected to announce a total of seven phones at MWC. The phones we know are W395, C901, C903, Frida, and an X1 successor. See in thread 24th January 2009 The first images of Frances have been leaked. It is to be called the C903, and is a 5Mp Cyber-shot slider phone. See in thread 21st January 2009 The first images of Yao (now confirmed as the W395) have been leaked. See in thread 21st January 2009 Filippa is to be named the C901 and comes in three colours (black, silver and peach). It is due for announcement at MWC. See in thread 8th January 2009 The Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C510 (Kate), the Walkman W508 (Brittany) and the Walkman W715 (Norika, Vodafone Exclusive) have been announced. See in thread 3rd January 2009 More spy-shots of Kate have been leaked by Dailymobile. See in thread 2nd January 2009 Hikaru is now rumoured to be a non-touch-screen Walkman feature phone with all the previously rumoured specs. No longer a smartphone. See in thread 9th December 2008 Sony Ericsson has announced it has joined the Open Handset Alliance, meaning they will be developing phones to run on the Android platform soon. See in thread 4th December 2008 According to SEMC Blog, Kate is to be named the C510. No new specs are known at this stage, but there is also word that it could be canceled. See In Thread 28th November 2008 Sony Ericsson is said to be preparing 16 million colour screens of WVGA resolution for their 2009 devices. See In Thread 13th November 2008 Walkman 4 is said to have the ability to be rotated both ways, rather than just to the left like Walkman 3. See In Thread 13th November 2008 According to Sony α, who is fresh back from Japan, Bravia phones may make an appearance in international markets during 2009. See In Thread 13th November 2008 There have been further confirming rumours of the Walkman slider that se-world spoke of. There is some confusion over this phone and Hikaru but as the latest rumours suggest, this phone runs on the A2 platform and therefore cannot be the smartphone Hikaru. See In Thread Back To Top |

Very nice, M-Oli! I'm impressed!
BTW, you should make the title of the thread longer so that it can be easily distinguished from other threads.

Cheers mate. One of the ideas I had was to keep the thread title short so that I can also include important updates in the title when they happen. Just like Clauf's Keitai thread.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't know a way to get them to fit nicely on everyone's computer screens. I have tested them on two very different computers here, and have had feedback from a couple of people, and for them they either fitted perfectly or were not far off. I apologise to anyone whose doesn't fit very well.

The above problem should now be fixed. Thanks guys.

@Muhammad-Oli
A stylish start! Visually more than appealing, well-thought out, well-organized. Given your aesthetic sense, we could expect nothing less.
Now it's up to not to disappoint and set new standards of functionality and style in the forthcoming year.
Cheers!

I may change colours and fitting as we go, but at least for today that's how it will stay because I must sleep! I did base it mostly on Goldenface's thread because it is what we all know, and why change a good thing?

Excellent design Oli! Visually impressive yet nice and simple. Should render very well on A2 phones and various smartphones alike.
Don't mean to be rude in this suggestion; but can you keep a subtle presence with a change only in band-colour for the different sections; maybe? Either way its really cool looking.
