on a japanese web site I found a tool called PSMPLAYER that can play mmf files and convert midi files to mmf files !!! And it works although I can't read japanese.
You have to use lha32 to unpack it, then run it, then guess where the function to open a file is (CTRL+O works fine) then select the midi file, adjust volume and octave using the toolbar and finally save it guessing the right save options (in japanese of course) but you can also see some western letters containing SMFAF16-J-Sky. Now you can download the POLYPHONIC ringtone to the Samsung SGH-T100 and enjoy it.

SMAF stands for Synthetic Music Mobile Application Format and is copyright by Yamaha. On their website there is the full specs and a small tool to convert wav and standard midi file (format 0 only) to SMAF 2 (extension .mmf)
