I have successfully configured GLOBE's GPRS on the notebook since about 3 weeks ago, but have not used it since then coz I prefer my PDA and T39 combo for occasional surfing or acessing my email while on the move.
deepak's GPRS woes in India made me curious about my own settings, so I decided to use my laptop again to connect to the net. And on my first few attempts, the connections were unsuccessful that I had to lower my DTR connections (thinking it was the problem), which eventually proved useless coz curiously I need to "reboot" betwen re-connecting to the network to make it log-in (have you experienced this?). I had to log-on and off 'coz I was succesful in connecting to the network but I cannot reach any website.
After a few reboots, tinkering with the DTR maximum speed connection (it's now set at maximum: 115,200), the connection just worked. I went to google - 'twas Ok, went to ESATO 'twas OK and then it conked out again. I still had a network connection but I cannot reach the websites again. Is GPRS on the notebook reliable? I got no problems with PDA+T39 combo, just with the notebook connections.
I hope this thread will be a forum for GLOBE or SMART GPRS users on PCs and/or laptops. |

The other way is to use GSM Data. But you have to subscribe to Globe's Mobile Data, which may not be available for pre-paid. I wouldn't use GSM Data (which is 9.6kbps way too slow), unless the operator has HSCSD (which is 43kbps).

i have no GPRS access.
how much do you spend for prepaid credits every month? if you're spending over 500 a month, it's probably better getting a post paid line instead.
i wish to use my phone's e-mail
capabilities, is there any other way?
you choose between GPRS or HSCSD/CSD. post-paid plans only.
wishing of a handheld (what would be a nice one, suggestions?)
oi... touchy topic. best to find out first what you want to do with your PDA, then seek out the products out there that meets your needs. (i got an m505, and an m500 before that.) |

hmm... the only setback if i get a line is that i might not be able to CONTROL my use...
so i stick with prepaid. i thought about that na before....
coz if prepaid, if i dont have no more credits, then i have no choice but to stop, unlike if postpaid.... i wouldnt really seem to have known i'm spendin that much...
but yah, line subscription has more features than prepaid.

still... the limit tells you only how much FREE AIRTIME (or postpaid airtime) you've got...
you can exceed the limit, no doubt.
and pay big money....
my friend once spent P7,000 in a month, and was subscribed on advantage plan (P333/mo.)
that's what i wont like.....

hmm ... now the laptop connection on GPRS works without a hitch.
really weird. I have used another driver instead - standard 33.6 modem using virtual comm. port (as suggested by Globe).
no probs so far.

There are actually 4 ways possible for a Globe subscriber with T68 to browse POP email Account (like Yahoo)
1. Using T68 email client with GPRS wap
2. Using T68 email client via ISP (either subscribed or prepaid internet access)
3. Using GSM wap mail server portals (like http://wap.yahoo.com)
4. Using Globexplore.
Since you are a prepaid user, you can only use options 2 to 4. And if you are using yahoo mail, I would recommend you use 3. There is actually a trick so you can browse your mail for free but I can't discuss it here. Just send me a private message if you are interested. No string attached. |

hello!
im using a T68 n infocom email isp, i can receive email but dont know why i cant send out. the (pop.info.com.ph) n so is the (smtp.info.com.ph) setups were copied from my email setup.. anyone can help?
our units keeps on freezing if we surf thru gprs especially when lots of data comes in... how abt yours?

i just noticed that prepaid cant use gprs anymore, i remember i was able to use prepaid to surf using gprs... wonders why globe stop it.
i like to know the setting of nokia 8310 for us to use the sms on gprs.. thanks |
