Just as I can't be bothered to Wait for the 02 CD to come in the Post, here are the links & settings to use 02 GPRS through a PDA, note you need to be on the Web Surfer Tariff (4mb @13.99 per month) package otherwise you do not have access to the mobile web apn (mobile.02.co.uk) you just have access to the WAP apn (wap.genie.co.uk).
You can download the install program from the 02 site (though when i spoke to O2 it wasn't there ??
http://www.btcellnet.net/misc/pocket_pc_software_download.exe
You can also manually configure it using the setting below:
Power on PDA
Select ‘Start’ ‘Programs’ ‘Connections’ ‘Modem
Settings’ (This is shown on the bottom of the screen.
Select ‘New Connection’
Insert Name (i.e. GPRSWEB)
Select ‘Generic IR Modem’ – From the drop down box
Select Baud Rate ‘57600’ – From drop down box
Select ‘Advanced’
Port Settings (Connection Preferences) should show the following: -
• Data Bits : 8
• Parity : None
• Stop Bits : 1
• Flow Control : Hardware
Click on ‘TCP/IP’
• No options should be checked / ticked other than ‘ Use
Server Assigned IP address’
Click on ‘Name Servers’
• Check / Tick ‘Use Specific server addresses’
Insert DNS IP address (APN Dependent)
• Primary DNS Settings: - 193.113.200.200
• Secondary DNS Settings: - 193.113.200.201
Select ‘OK’ – (Placed top right hand corner)
Select ‘Next’
Insert *99# as the telephone number and leave all other fields blank. (To insert * or #, you need to tap on shift first). For Siemens S45 insert number *99***1#.
Select ‘Next’
Check / tick :- Cancel if not connected within 120 seconds
Un-check / un-tick : - Wait for dial tone before dialling.
Click into Extra Dial-strings modem commands
This as above with the DNS/WINS, is dependent on the APN you are connecting to.
For Mobile Web: - Enter +cgdcont =1,”IP”,”MOBILE.O2.CO.UK” – All in upper case.
For ADF simply swap APN’s in the above string.
Note – this is not necessary for WAP over GPRS and IP is not an indication or request for an IP address to be input. Leave “IP” as it is.
Select ‘ Finish’ Then ‘OK’
Select your newly created connection Dialling options Dialling patterns
Delete all characters in each box except for a
• For local calls dial: G

Enter username and Password
Align infrared ports and tap ‘connect’.
I will post the setup for the Compaq iPaq 3870 when mine arrives, anyway I hope that this helps anyone who want to set it up, you can also try this website www.o2.co.uk/mobileweb.
