Ok anyone with this working -
1) Which APN are you using?
2) Does the JID you use in the app HAVE to be @cmessenger.cleverlance.com
All I get is "connecting" for ever!
Cheers

[EDIT]
After testing out different settings it appears that you don't need an APN "internet" data account to be set up with CID=1
You have to set up your active WAP profile to use a Data Account that has APN "internet"
I have posted a more detailed explanation on the next page

Hello,
If you have got nickname kloon, I see some mistake. You set login as kloon@cmessenger.cleverlance.com, but login must be only kloon.
I hope, that it will be ok.
I have some information that Microsoft will disable their MSN for access from unauthorized client or server on 15.10.2003
Best regards

Since the other thread was locked, I guess I will continue here...

I'm not sure about that. I do MSN and ICQ from my IPAQ and from my PC (when I am in the lounge waiting for flights) using GPRS and I am always surprised at disconnection how little data I have used... even after 30 mins online |

That's right, a standart MSN messenger that runs on a platform that supports raw sockets, will use RVP over TCP/IP protocol. However cmessenger for T610 is JAVA midp.1 compliant and therefore uses http protocol for all communication. http protocol has a larger overhead, additionally the JAVA client will have to poll the server at frequent intervals for changes instead of having information pushed from the server when it becomes available. That would also generate additional traffic. The JAVA client also relies on the HTTP gateway to perform all the communication with the MSN network on it's behalf.
Also, if I am not mistaken, an HTTP connection will not remain constantly open which means that every time the MSN client wants to poll the Gateway for changes a new connection must be established - generating additional traffic.
During short term use this additional overhead may not ammount to much, but during prolonged use I believe it can ammount to quite a few kbs
[EDIT]
This is not an argument against CMessenger. This is an argument for MIDP2/Sockets for T610

I can't get this working...
Btw, i've tried htmlwiever workin too, but without success so it seams to be some connecting problem.
My CID=1 has the APN internet.vodafone.net (my operator is Vodafone SE) i can connect my computer via this APN (via bluetooth) and surf the web so there should not be any problem with this apn
In fact, i posted this message thru this apn with my PC. |
