I just bought a T68i and it has R8B006 firmware on it.
I've been told by the local service center that this is the newest for the phone, and includes special customizations from my provider.

Just wanted to sling that up so other people knew that there's a newer version of the firmware out there than the R8A.

...but presumably it will only be available for T68i with the same provider... who ever and where ever that may be... as you didn't say!

R8B is a network provider specific version... meaning it will not be released for all language versions.

R8A is the latest general release for T68i as has been clearly stated. If you go to SE to get an upgrade that is certainly what youi will get.

I won't bother answering this same question in that other thread.

EDIT: Here is Cytechs firmware page

What's the chance that SE will continue to provide updates to T68i? R9 or further? Or is R8A is likely the end of the line?

minimal chance I reckon as the T68/t68i line is getting close to being 2 years old

Depends how many people buy it at the moment. Software upgrades cost money in developing them

service centres are the only place to upgrade unless you want to try and do it yourself.

Cal on 08705 237 237 for your nearest service centre
