K790i won't start up after Wotan EROM update |

Like the title says - I updated my phone to the latest EROM using Wotan, because it said that mine's way too old, after it finished updating it said that it's done successfully and to unplug the cable and take the battery out for "a while" I've tried waiting for as long as 12 hours with no battery and it makes no difference. Wotan's client can't see the phone anymore if I hold down the C button, but it CAN if I hold down the 2 and 5 buttons, however it errors out. All I have is the IR light blinking a couple of times after plugging in the cable or trying to power on the phone. Any suggestions?

so is this a Wotanserver issue and is there a fix for it by re-flashing the firmware using them or another service (Davinci KK)? I'm about to send my phone to unlockcellular.com because they have SETool which was successful at fixing this phone the last time I had an issue (WSOD).

That's just great! I just got a reply from Wotan's support telling me that since I can't talk to the phone while holding down the C key, they can't do anything... This is the biggest load of CRAP I've ever heard! It was their crappy software that caused my phone to be in its current state, they owe me a fix!

SCREW WOTANSERVER!!!! I opened a ticket on their site asking for assistance after doing the EROM update which bricked my phone. I gave them my logs and everything. Their reply was the following:

if you cannot connect the phone with the C key then there is nothing you can do, the phone must go back to a service centre

This is TOTAL BULL SHIT!!!
Their software caused my phone to stop functioning and this is the best answer they can give me???? I asked them this very question and guess what? THEY CLOSED MY INCIDENT WITH NO FURTHER REPLY!!!!
IF YOU EVER HAVE YOUR PHONE UPDATED BY THIS SHADY COMPANY, YOU'RE TAKING A CHANCE OF HAVING IT IRREPARABLY CRASHED!!!

Yes, Wotan support is bad. No satisfying answer. However, I always succeed in flashing with Wotan. My luck perhaps? |

Well, just heard back from UnlockCellular.com - they can't fix my phone. They've tried to re-flash it with all the tools they have at their disposal (SETool etc) and it just won't take. I also contacted SE Service to see about shipping it to them for repair at cost, but they refuse to work on Prototype phones even if pay them. This kinda blows because I now apparently have a $450 paper weight.
THANKS WOTAN SERVER. THANKS FOR THE AWESOME SERVICE YOU'VE PROVIDED ME. WITHOUT YOU I COULD HAVE ENJOYED MY PHONE FOR A LONG TIME TO COME... YOU SUCK!!!
My word of advice to anyone who plans on using wotan server - think about your investment, in my personal experience their software has KILLED my phone while performing an update which according to them was supposed to prevent my phone from dying.

maybe its something to do with it being a 'prototype' what you updated, i would always stick with wotan just for flashing, nothing else

With service and support like that I wouldn't use Wotan for anything. Sounds like you can't trust them to sit the right way on a toilet seat, let alone work on your phone. I've always used DaVinci Team and their support is first class.

I have used Wotan Service for the past 2 years and touch wood everything works fine.
But I know how I would feel. So I do feel for you.
I know this is Mad. But You could email the UK customer service center or ring the uk number. We have a Service Repair Center that normal deal with any SE phone. However as yours is the prototype im not sure if they would look at it. But its worth a try. They may even give you a flat fee for repairng it.
Other than that its back to Ebay. The K800i currenlty here in the uk is £179 which is about $345, I wish i could be more help.
I hope you do get it sorted or manager to get a k790 phone.

Sure. Anything that worked before will work after. You're replacing the branded firmware with the non-branded firmware that SE would install if you bought the phone directly from them.

The reason I went with the prototype was because it is the ONLY way to get a quad-band K790 phone. SE in their infinite wisdom desided to split it into two models but I wanted to have a phone that I can use in the US (850mhz) and in Eastern Europe (900mhz)... I'm thinking of buying the bottom case from cnn.cn and then calling in back to the Service center. THey woulndn't know what the phone is until and unless they fix it at which point of time it won't matter (either way). $100 repair or $25 diagnostic if irreperable - I'm willing to take a chance to possibly salvage my phone. I'm getting tired of using my backup (AudioVox SMT5600 WinMo  )
