You're quite right - some Esato members do indeed use that phrase a lot without any consideration for the WAP users. It must be the beautifully designed, animated, 'use the search' smiley that draws and compells them to do this. That's why I switched to a new phrase: 'use the manual' and I demand a new smiley!

I tend only to read the manual if I can download it in PDF format, which you can for all phones for example, because that way it is much easier to find what you are looking for using the pdf reader search facility

Yeap, that really comes in handy. However, when I study I find it more comfortable using printed material - it may be due the fact that my country only entered the computer age after the 1989 revolution and the subsequent fall of communism. Going back to the manual - I think that maybe half of the issues raised on Esato could be easily solved by ACTUALLY reading the manual. Makes you think, doesn't it...

It is a beautiful little booklet that comes in the box with your phone, if your lucky like me it is in your own language and it contains the most marvellous information on what your phone can do. I can recommend a reading to all phone users.
I am one of those rare ppl that do read the manual

I'd rather have the manual in English - I sometimes find the translation to be of a questionable quality. And I agree with Vlam - I'm quite bored with the recent Esato wave of 'tips' that are in fact nothing more than common knowledge once you've read the manual.

i do use it to set up my voice commands and such. I find it goes much faster than opening a thread 'how to set up voice commands' and wait for 10 different replies to then sort out the right one

Using the search is all very well but when you get about a million results trying to find the right one is a nightmare!

...then I would say "learn to use the search" because, as others here will confirm, I can certainly find virtually anything I am looking for... moreso with the latest version of the search.
but this thread is more about people being told to use the search who are on wap and I don't know what laffens ideas are but I think it would be quite hard to implement a workable and usable search on wap.
btw, being on WAP does not absolve people from the need to choose wisely whether a question is worth asking on WAP when it could wait until you are online on a pc again (assuming you have that capability at all), especially if its very likely that the question has been covered recently or has been covered many times, unless an urgent answer is required of course.
edit: well I will eat my words there does appear to be a search there in WAP now
