NTT DoCoMo from Japan has succefully finished tests today with 4G... The download rate is 100Mbps!!! It's 41.666 faster than CDMA2000 X1 EV-DO wich is the fastest network operating todat... This is a brakethrough not only in the Celluar department, but also in WLAN... Anyway the expectation were that 4G will be fully operating in 2010.. Now it has been earlier to 2007-2008... So the future is bright...

Bright for the Japs that is!
Here in the UK we still dont have 3G or even used the full aspects of 2G! MMS Is starting to take off, but itll be slow!
How come it takes soooo long to finally reach us here in the EU!!
2007 for 4G in Jap, Thats probably when well be getting to affordable 3G handsets!!

shklar1, I've read stories about the 4g tests but not reporting that 100Mbps was successful. Could you post a link? Thks!
100Mbps isn't exactly a breakthrough in WLAN but it ain't shabby.

Ok? Is this going to be cheap?
Because I can't see my self using my Cellphone with a 100MB/s connection when I have a 20MB Limit and pay 5 cents per a kilo, hehe. |

If we ever get that kind of speed in a cellular network here in Europe, I'm geting rid of my stationary comp. and going mobile only. I'm actualy already considering it using GPRS.... |

Thanks for the link, looks promising in the long run...
Delta, it's 100Mbit, not byte, but still fast enough for high-definition streaming video. Btw, what are you paying in France for your GPRS? I read you used to be in SoCal, did you sign a contract over there or are you on pre-paid?

Actually you don't need today that kind of speed. Later on they will release a phone that capable of web browsing (P800 and alike), downloading huge files to your cellphone/pda, video streaming etc. Connecting to your PC will be great with this kind of connection. |

Sounds exciting..! I love the way mobiles are going anyway, cant wait for p800! On a different note, is it true that in japan, the mobiles dont use sim cards and are basicaly locked to the network? Curious to find out for sure... ;o)
