Will there be problems if T610 updated with T630 software?
Seems like same memory etc. |

if they share the same hardware, it might work.

This is on mobile-review:
T630 (earlier known as T620) has the same features as T610. The only difference is TFT-screen. Besides, it has changed design, aimed more to young people and mainly to ladies. Such positioning is explained simply: SE T610 was purchased mainly be men and women didn’t pay attention to this handset. Dimensions of both phones (T610 and T620) are the same and purchasing T630 you could put it in the case of T610. Other changes are software concerned. For example, now a separate list of your friends with icons (menu item in the main menu) is available. If you wish you could renew your firmware of T610 to T630, but it is senseless to do it just to have one new menu item. On the other hand, the new phone has improved algorithms of digital camera and as a result better images quality, though not considerably different.
So, essentially you can upgrade the features of the T610 to T630. Buy a screen off ebay and install it. Im sure someone here will help. Same phone different cover. Same hardware (bar screen) so software upgrade will work.
Yay!
Is the correct? |

sounds about right i'd say.
but hey, why not just sell off your T610 and use the cash to buy the T630 when it's out? perhaps S.E. might even do an upgrade at minimal cost in the near future.
their T610 base globally is huge, i'm sure they don't want to make them unhappy when new T630 users have a slightly better software and display.
S.E. did it for the T68 users... so chances are there. |

T630/Z600 is not designed as a successor or replacement for T610. I would expect similar firmware functionality to be implemented in the future, though I wouldn't hold my breath for better screens.

Software-wise, it's not just the icons that are different, but the Shortcuts has been replaced with my Friends which in turn has a CHAT function using Wireless Village technology. |

So, will upgrading T610 to T630 spoil the T610? Must I change the screen in order for the upgrade to work. |

You have to change the screen to the one from a T630 as the firmware contains the drivers for that screen and not the screen for the T610. If you want the extra functions of the T630 then you will have to get a T630 screen to go with it. You can buy them on Ebay in the uk for about £35-£40.

I just did something similar to this...
You can buy an upgrade kit off eBay that will upgrade just the housing and keypad. (The T630 uses a different key layout - that is why you need a new keypad.) You can also upgrade the screen to the T630 screen, but this requires a firmware upgrade to install the drivers for the new screen.
All I upgraded (well, I haven't received it in the mail yet) was the housing, so it would LOOK like a T630. But you can also upgrade the screen and the software, making it a REAL T630 for all intents and purposes. Flashing the firmware voids the warranty though.

EDIT: If you upgrade the software, you MUST upgrade the screen. As I mentioned before, the software has the hardware drivers, so if you replace the drivers for the T610 screen with the new drivers for the T630, the T610 screen won't work anymore.

So, I have to change screen, keyboard layout and fw just to have My friends menu?, or there are other interesting functions on T630 that makes the upgrade reasonable?...

To buy a t630 is the best solution instead of taking a t610 in apart and play with it as a lego game. The risk isnt worth.

as far as i can see, the only reason you would want to upgrade is for teh new screen.. which is much better than the t610.
and boba, it is much cheaper to buy an upgrade kit than a new phone...

so, the main reason is to upgrade the screen, but I'll have to install T630 software and keyboard layout to make the screen work, so my T610 will be a T630 on a T610 case....
