I am trying to send pictures via bluetooth from my T68i to the PC and It searches for a device but never finds any. I am paired with the PC (and can easily delete it and repair and it works every time) plus I can send from the PC to the T68i. I can send from the T68i to the PC via IR with no issues. Is there some limit that the T68i will only send pictures or melodies via bluetooth to another cell phone?

FYI I have the Indonesian T68i. If someone could try this I would appreciate it. I am running Win2k with a 3Com bluetooth PCMCIA card.

that IR works alot easyer rarley any problems
where bluetooth can drive you crazy.

Do You know for sure, if your bluetooth-card supports transfer of files, e.g. background-pictures/melodies to and from a phone ?

Mine doesnt at the current moment (Anycom pc card). It only supports FileTranfer, meaning from one pc to another pc or pda.

Sending files from my PC to my T68i over bluetooth works fine. I can send pictures, eMelody, iMelody, etc. I haven't been able to try sending via Bluetooth to another T68x because my co-worker who has a T68 as well is out of town. I have my old T68m, but no SIM for it. I have never really tried before (with T68m) to send files back to the PC (but I have sent stuff to another phone via bluetooth on the T68m). Bluetooth headset works fine, etc.

The only two reasons I was doing this was 1) it is faster than email to get pictures off my MCA-20 and 2) I was saving off my ringtones as seperate files. This all works fine via IR.

Basically when I kick off a send item and it looks for bluetooth devices it doesn't find any. If I do a bluetooth pairing (ie to verify they can see each other) it searches and finds the PC no worries.

My guess is that there is the possibility that in the search it only looks for mobile phones to send items too??? and since it knows the PC is a PC it ignores it. Shrug.

I have exactly the same problem with my 3Com bluetooth USB adapter.
I can send files to the phone - no problem.
I can backup the whole T68i with the PhoneBackup software - no problem.
But I do not know how to send files (melodies, pictures etc) to the PC (phone cannot find the PC).
The Bluetooth Connection Manager from 3Com has an Inbox, but it does not have a receive file function!
Maybe I need another peace of software, or maybe the T68i R2A014 does not support it. I havn't tried with the R2B025 software yet. I'll keep you posted if I get it to work.

Vtheroceo > You could compare Bluetooth to WI-FI (802,11b), but they are not the same.
Bluetooth is radio-communication between devices at up to 10 metres range usually. And Bluetooth is used in mobile-devices and e.g. laptops.
It requires that the device have a bluetooth-module/chipset, either built-in or as an adapter.

WiFI cant be used in mobile-phones,..it would drain the battery to much.

But WiFi-Bluetooth converters are being worked on right now.

You can read the "sticky topic" in the "Technical forum". This is a topic I did on Bluetooth specifications and so on

In the bluetooth chipset/module You have some different profiles that are added. For example :

A headset has the "audio/voice-profile" and nothing else right now.

A phone or a pc-card could/does have different profiles :
seriel port : for e.g. synchronization.
audio profile : (so that a headset can be connected.
DUN (dial up network): used when surfing the internet, using phone as modem.

Basically all bluetooth products are upgradable,..meaning you could have more different profiles in the future.

Normally bluetooth devices need to be able to "know" each other. This is done by "pairing" the devices.

------------------------------------------

DAN > I use my T68i as modem, and a laptop with bluetooth card to surf the internet using gprs works great.
I could also use XTND-connect/sync with outlook.

Eureka!

It works. I reinstalled the bluetooth drivers, and sending pic from phone works like a charm now.

Be sure to install the latest drivers from 3Coms website, and uninstall the old ones first. After uninstall, remove the Bluetooth Adapter, and go to windows/inf or winnt/inf and do a search for files containing bluetooth. All the *.inf files that are related to 3com must be deleted! If not, it will install old drivers the next time you connect it.

Sync, dialup and Bluetooth send should work if you do this.

To Knut.G.:
What date/version is your 3com drivers because I tried this a week ago and the newest drivers I can find still seems to be 11/27/2001 1.0.022.12 (Product # 3CREB96 from 28 jan 2002)
I still can't get it go work. What do you do? Open Bluetooth Connection Manager and pair the phone and send from phone?
Because my phone still just says: Searching.... No devices found

That seems to be the latest, yes.

I set security options very low using custom setting, and I paired the phone with the PC, using the "phone starts" option. I also set the computer type to PC instead of notebook. For some reason it did not work with notebook.

Well it may be my drivers but I should have the latest ones. I also tried chaging the device type to desktop and the security to low, still it did not work. I was able to detect and send a file to my iPaq 3870 though.

My 3Com drivers are (PCMCIA card):
Bluetooth Connection Manager Version 1.1.28.4
Bluetooth Stack Version 1.0.30.6
Bluetooth API Version 1.0.30.1
Bluetooth OBEX1 Version 1.0.30.0
Bluetooth OBEX2 Version 1.0.30.0
Bluetooth Object Push Version 1.0.30.0

same result with my co-workers laptop and his 3Com PCMCIA card as well.

That sending is done with OBEX Object Push. The PC SW has to have that profile implemented.

I have 3COM Bluetooth USB under Linux and it works just fine (both ways). Problem with Windows is that the 3Com software has been very buggy so far The device can do it, but the SW is not up to the task yet.
