Apparently ATT have disabled the save function on their branded phones. Your only solution is to upgrade the firmware on the phone to one that isn't customised by AT&T.

WTF?!? Is that true??
If its true that the "save picture" function IS disabled on newer versions of AT&T branded T68i's -- then F*CK THEM!!!!!!
Damn! It really frustrates me when a provider like AT&T starts clamping down on all the cool functions of their devices.
The MAIN reason I cancelled my Sprint account after two weeks was precicely because I could not download/transfer my own content (pictures, ringtones, etc.) to their Samsung A500. The only way you could "customize" their phones was by paying for and downloading their "premium content" from their exclusive servers.
If what you are saying is true, AT&T is starting to pull the same sort of crap. Because AT&T never provided it's T68i users with software or a cable to transfer content, the only easy way to import pictures was to use the "save picture" menu item. In addition, I don't think AT&T has ever made it possible for US customers to upgrade their firmware, so you'll be stuck with the fw unless you go to Europe or Asia or somewhere. I wonder if they'll ever turn off the download file from link ability?
@sholtz77
Exactly when did you get the phone? Can you please post the firmware version here? Also, when you wrote "T68is", was it a typo, or is there really an "is" version of the T68?
Thanks man and good luck. I completely understand your frustration.

Attention AT&T! You'd better start supporting MMS or I'm switching to T-Mobile! |

ATTWS doesn not kill any functions of the T68 or T68i other than the MMS capability because we don't support it as of yet. If you were not getting the option to save the picture, it was either in the wrong format, not w/in the T68i spec for pictures, or there is a problem with your firmware. Could you perhaps post a link to the picture you are trying to download so that others users can confirm that there is an issue? |

I really hope you're right. It would really suck if they did disable it.
Regarding MMS, why haven't they made it available yet? Surely its not that hard to set up a cluster of servers to handle MMS traffic? T-mobile now supports it. What's with AT&T's delay?
I suspect it's AT&T's marketing group holding up the project until they figure out a way to spend millions of dollars for some flashy ad campaign promoting MMS. And, they're probably figuring out the best way to charge us the most money for it too. (i.e. paying 0.10 for each outgoing SMS, IN ADDITION to the $13 I pay for a 4 MB data plan -what BS!!)

Actually AT&T did limit some of the features on the T68i, in the newer version (T68is) AT&T made it so you can no longer get pictures or ringtones for free. They want you to pay for them on their pay site. If you dont belive me... give it a try with a T68is. Its not the firmware, its the service. |

So there is a T68is? Anyone know the differences between that and a T68i?
@scubba_steve
Last night I successfully used the 'save picture' function to save a picture from a web sight. And AT&T is my sp. So perhaps it is a matter of a firmware upgrade (or downgrade)? |

Locked/limited features is one reason why I left Verizon. They start offering phones with more features and then start nickel and diming their customers. I hate the concept of software rental and that's part of what Get It Now is all about.
Their partnership with MSN for their mobile web service was the last straw. Now I'm with T-Mobile. A little less signal penetration in my office, but other than that, I'm much happier after getting a free T68i (try that on Verizon with no 2 year contract) and Bluetooth so I can transfer ringtones, backgrounds, screensavers all to my phone for FREE! And I can use my phone around the world now too! |

Problem solved. You can now download logos even if you own a AT&T phone. http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=18392&forum=2 |

AT&T as well other carriers do not disable anything the phones they sell. The people who make the phones( SE,Nokia, Moto) make the phones with certain specs according to the Carriers. Don't blame the carriers. If you want a phone with every possible function active then buy them directly from the company such as SE, Nokia and Moto and see how much they charge you! |

First you say the manufacturers make the phones according to carrier specifications. Then you say don't blame the carriers.
I don't understand your point. If the carriers define the phones' functions (i.e. the ability to download images using 'save picture'), then blame can only be attributed to the carriers because they are the ones who instruct the manufacturers as to which features to include or exclude.
And, as was stated earlier, AT&T has every reason to restrict downloading of free content. Why should they give their users access to free content when they can they can easily restrict access to for-pay content only? |

not every carrier supports every possible function that crammed into some of these new phones. That is what i meant when i said carrier specs. Here is an example. For years Nokia has added a feature that allowed the time on your phone to be updated automatically by the carriers network. Seems like a nice feature but alot of carriers did not and still do not support this feature so why add it. Motorola offers the same feature on the V60 series but is been a useless feature because mst carriers do not support it. That is why now some models are having certain features disabled but not by the carrier. |

Monopolizing American b*llsh*t! That's why good new phones are last to arrive there.
