it seems quite a lot of us have been encountering more and more problems with globe's gprs, with pop email being blocked, along with access to many sites.
by chance, i came across 'addict mobile' today, a new service from smart to be officially launched next week. addict offers postpaid plans priced along the same lines as smart gold. free minutes look identical to smart's. the difference is that instead of offering fixed free sms sending, the plans have consumable amounts for data services which may be used for sms, mms, value-added services/downloads, and gprs usage.
as an example, the brochure says that the plan 1335 gives you 210 free minutes and P550 consumable for data services. the rates for data services are sms = P1.00, mms = P5.00, infotext = P2.50, mms personalization = P15.00 (i guess those are wallpapers and polytones), and best of all, gprs = P0.25/kb. so you just consume the P550 based on those rates, and only start paying extra once you have used up your monthly allotment.
sounds really good to me! i already signed up and will be getting my sim card next week. with a plan like this, i have decided that the time has finally come to ditch globe. it was only the free wap that was keeping me on globe anyway, especially since smart has much better provincial coverage.
will post how it all turns out... |

Don't know about better provincial coverage since smarts signal here in western batangas sucks big time. The new plans though sound like a breath of fresh air and i hope globe takes the cue and implements something similar. We all know that this is a reaction to the entry of a new carrier. This is what's great about competition. Hope they try to outdo each other in services. First things first though and i'm addressing globe telecoms.WHAT'S HAPPENING TO YOUR GPRS SERVICE? :-(

hmmm. pardon me if i'm wrong. But i don't see any difference to globe's data plan. P500 per month for up to 2 MB of gprs data. Isn't that 0.25/kb too? Add 10% VAT and you've got P550. Incorporate it into your 1335 plan and it's the SAME tomato. With a different packaging.
But since that P500 is also consumed by your text messages & other FUN stuff, lugi ka pa pala.
Just an observation. I'm not pro-Globe or anything, just being objective. |

it's more like if you had a globe plan of P1200, which is what i have now, i get 210 min and 350 sms free. then i would have to pay an additional P500 for 2MB of gprs, bringing my monthly to P1700. and i don't get any free mms.
i just think its better that with the addict 1335 plan, i would have P550 consummable on gprs, sms or mms. then once i exceed the consummable amount, thats the only time i start paying extra.
and honestly, i have both globe and smart now, and from my observations, i haven't seen any performance trade-off with smart's network. in fact, it's better in the sense that when i go to anilao, i have strong gprs signal where i have no signal at all with globe. |

Anilao is in eastern batangas, try going to the western part( balayan, calatagan, nasugbu, calaca etc.) where i'm from and you will know what i mean. Go inside a building and your signal's lost.

moral of the story is that both networks are far from perfect. to be sure, carry 2 sims. really can't win em all...

Get this! I downloaded a Jimi Hendrix Theme at Freethemes.com and guess what showed up? The Text Id Bug. Anyways I deleted the theme and now it's back to normal. I'm using R7A

@Gows: it's that old sw bug. Only the mobile number is reflected on your received sms, even if that number has already been stored in your contacts. No name, just the number. |
