To all Smart subscribers:

I apologize for announcing last September 5 that GRPS charging is not happening yet. On that day I called *888 and they gave me the information that there were no charges YET. I called the Manager of ICON to confirm, but only now that I got the confirmation. Which states, and i quote:

"Oct 5 start of charging: internet over gprs (using internet APN) - P0.50/kilobyte. wap over gprs (using smart apn) - P2.50/trans. Outside smart wap portal P0.50/kilobyte"

I filed a complaint with Smart and here's the deal:

To those who were charged on October 5 (including myself), email me your mobile number and Smart WILL REFUND you the charges made.

Send your mobile number NOW!

what about globe.... do you have info on the same matter...

I been reading the newspaper for the past week, day after day, but i didn't notice any public announcement by SMART regarding the eventual charging of their GPRS service....

I hope Globe will not follow suit, charging their customer without first notifying them.... a very unSMART move...

peace.... if Smart is really charging GPRS, you are always welcome to our GLOBE family,supposing they are not yet charging...

@randyc, smart marketing supposedly published it in the papers, and they argued "na delay pa nga pag charge namin eh. dapat october 1."

i also argued, how can you charge without the rates! it's stupid.

kawawa customer service ng smart, wala silang ka-alam alam sa ginawa ng marketing. this is one big screw up.

If they posted it, maybe yes it's condonable.... but as i said earlier, i've been a newspaper hog for the past week ( inquirer ) except for the usual marketing for their Smart phones and 64 k, i failed to notice their announcement....

maybe they don't know what each department are doing.... sad to say, they have been in this business for too long and they still haven't have the decency to inform their loyal subscriber regarding their plans, rates or whatever.....

I am not a pro GLOBE subscriber eventhough i been a loyal one eversince, both of them suck bigtime.... but to charge someone of service supposedly free and without still the proper charges scheme is highway robbery.

remember the time when they propose a 5 php/text, people protested... i think that whether or not they refund your money for the charges unknown... you and the rest of SMART GPRS users ( affected or not) should file a formal complaint with the proper agency, government or Smart for that matter.....

We, the consumers, have all the right to know what we are being charge of... to be inform.... cause in the end we can live without their services but they can't live without subscribers....

peace...

sorry, na highblood ako for their tactics...

oohh !! that was really disappointing , they have wrong tactics..i dont want to sound bad ,but dont you think that they intend to do that so the innocent subscribers will keep on using the GPRS and w/o the knowledge that they are being charge already...Smart then are earning a lot from us...

Hope Globe wont do that, unless they follow the footsteps of Smart...you know sometimes i smell fishy with these two networks..

ATTENTION GLOBE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! we dont need to bear with you , but YOU have to bear with US ...

Latest update:

I have filed my complaint with Smart, both email and verbal. The final word is and i quote "I spoke to marketing. Charging was turned off and will officially start on Monday, October 14." The quote is from the Manager of ICON.

Please take note of this!

i made a test, surfing for about 11 minutes 56 seconds:

received = 323,744 bytes
sent = 101,935 bytes

total bytes = 425,679

in kilobytes ( divide by 1,024) = 415.7021484375 kilobytes

@ 50 cents per kilobyte, that is a whopping P207.85 pesos!

who would use Smart GPRS now? Stupid scheme!

Part of my work is reading at least 3 major newspapers everyday... no public announcements yet. I will advice if I see any press release from now till the perceived charging date.

Remember that October is Consumer Awareness Month as declared by the DTI.

I contacted *888 and the CSR said that the official launch of Smart's GPRS will indeed be on October 14. Kainis naman kasi kakagamit ko pa lang ng GPRS nila.

Well, a rep from Smart CS called me this afternoon on my cell to inform me that their charges for GPRS start on the 15th already. I suppose they're contacting people individually??
