K800 Joystick problem |

I had this problem with my W800i and now it seems to be occuring with my K800i. When moving the joystick to the right, the menu's dont move, it takes a few goes to actually get the stick to move. Usually after a while its ok, but after not using the phone for an hour or 2 it will be stiff again.
Trouble is I've de-branded my phone, will I have to send it back to o2? is there a way to fix this or can I take it to an SE service centre?
Thanks

The same here. Just press the joystick in the middle with your finger and 'massage' in a circular motion for at least 5 seconds. It mostly worked for me..LOL. Couldn't find any better and instant way..anyway, it may break the phone, yet it's so far so good.. |

I had the same problem with the last k800i I owned (I've had 3 in total - all returned to T-Mobile UK). The stick was ok for a week or so after receiving the phone, but then it started with the problems when pressing right. It kept trying to send my texts when I was half way through writing them! It started to do it as well when pressing down, I would scroll down through my contacts then it would start to dial a contact without me even pressing the stick inwards!
I gave up on the phone - just too many bugs and faults for my liking. I was a happy SE user before experiencing the K800i. |

It has happened to me in with the down direction. After a few tries is ok, but I wonder how long. And they claimed this was a revised and better joystick, yeah, right! either improves their joysticks or get rid of them once and for all. |

Yea there joysticks are pretty sensative and is one of 's major cons. Seeing that you have gone through 3 K800i's have you taken into consideration that mabe how you handle it may cause the failures. You can improve your joysticks lifespan by keeping it away from heavily dusty places. Such as your pocket, and leather cases with inner cotton lining.

Happened to me too, but it's the left direction that's busted.... |

Don't think it was how I handled it I was very carefull with the phone. The Joystick problem only happended with the last K800i I had.. The first one kept turning itself off about 10 - 20 times a day, the second one had a faulty screen and third one had the problem with the stick - along with the application error messages I kept getting.
I take your point on dust though, coz I saw a little in mine. I did clean it out but it made no difference.
I've read loads on here about faulty SE sticks on their phones, Im surprised SE haven't sorted them out yet and found a way to keep them working properly.
It's a shame really coz I loved the k800i when it worked ok. The camera is just great!!

One thing I noticed is that when you're viewing your photos, and sometimes you press *right* and it scrolls forward 2 pictures instead of 1. Kind've annoying. |

ok, it's a little OT, but anyways here you can debrand your phone for a small fee:

So is the only way to fix it by getting it replaced? Isnt this going to be difficult with my phone being debranded? |

If you're brave you can do it yourself and purchase a joystick from ebay.

I've had this problem twice but fix it with a little AF Spray (cleaner/de-greaser for printers).
Good as new!
