PlayStation 3 turns up on Amazon Japan. Just not for sale.
Perhaps it’s more than a bit premature, but Amazon Japan has the PlayStation 3 listed up on their website at least year or two before it’s supposed to be actually for sale. They’re not exactly taking pre-orders, and there’s no information on pricing and no pics or details we didn’t already know, but that didn’t prevent a few precognitive individuals from already posting up their reviews.

This machine WILL be awesome, i just hope that the games released for it are not all just rehashed old PS2 tittles with improved graphics. however seeing the likes of Gran Turismo 5 running on PS3 would be an impressive sight, especially on broadband.

Cool, this looks great, especially the looks! And the controller plug looks very thin? (One of the first things I noticed!) This should be brilliant especially since all games, (Good ones that is), coming out on the Ps2 now have to be on Dual Layer DVD, and Push the console to the Limit!
Can't wait!
Charlie.

Well its about time they replaced there ps2 antique! Has anyone played Driver 3? Most of the time the slow down is awful. I wonder what kind of spin sony will come up with in the coming months? Remember all the hullabaloo over what was dubbed the "Emotion chip"? Everyone lapped it up as if it was something special when the whole time, it was just a fancy name for a very basic processor! Hopefully sony will put 4 controller ports on the PS3.
The car in front is absolutely unique apart from the one behind it which is exactly the same. Murray Walker |

I hope the controller isnt changed too much, its one of the best things about the playstations. Its brillliantly designed imho. Maybe another "L" and "R" button, would add more scope for games.

yeah, but there arent too many 4 player games out there for the PS2.
i suppose the demand would grow if the PS3 had 4 ports

I think it will be very interesting to see if the BDA (Blu-Ray Disc Association) does indeed grant Sony the abillity to incorporate the drives for the playing or recording of BLU-RAY discs on the PS3. However i'm not sure whether Blu-Ray will really take off as DVD-ROM is hugely popular worldwide.

Sony's PlayStation 3 will not appear until 2006 at the earliest, the company tacitly confirmed today.
The company's joint announcement with IBM and Toshiba that the PS3's processor, 'Cell', will be detailed at February 2005's International Solid State Circuits Conference focuses on the chip's features. However, it also notes that Sony plans to "commercialise" Cell-based products in 2006 and confirms that Cell will be used in the company's "next-generation computer entertainment system".
That timeframe follows IBM's plan to begin limited Cell production at its East Fishkill, New York 300mm wafer fab in the second half of 2005. In the past, IBM has pointed to an H1 2005 production start.
It's a schedule that's by no means at odds with what Sony has said so far. Cell is due to be unveiled mid-Q1 2005, and the PS3 is expected to be formally announced before the end of Q1 2005, when Sony's 2005 fiscal year comes to a close. You wouldn't expect Sony to talk about PS3 until Cell was complete, so those two events are clearly in sync.
PS3 is expected to make its first public appearance at the E3 show next May, just after Sony begins shipping first-generation console software development kits (SDKs), which are likely to be software-only offerings given IBM's production scheduled. Sony's roadmap calls for a second-generation SDK to appear October 2005, which will presumably ship alongside early hardware, again given IBM's H2 production run.
Such a schedule would give developers a good shot at offering software for the console early to mid-2006, which is when the console is likely to appear.
