New firmware K750i decreases the bit-rate of recorded videos? |

Is that true? I heard that the new firmware of K750i has a lower bit-rate of video recording. The video recording quality isn't as good as the first released firmware. Could anyone confirm on this issue?

How bad are the videos? does it decrease much?
Could anyone give me example of videos taken with the first firmware and the later one?

hmmm... I havent tried video recording before I updated, but after the update, I was expecting good quality, but found it to be ordinary, similar to older models with lower camera quality. |

If a firmware upgrade can lower the bitrate, maybe there might be someway to hack into the phone and make it record at a high bitrate and a larger resolution, i don't really know but i'm just guessing. |

That's a pain in the arse!
But at least if a firmware update can reduce the video quality - then another update can get it at least back to how it used to be. |

There is an unexplored option.
Remember that the k750i is a phone, a phone, a phone that happens to have a camera, video and digital still. If you want high quality video, you have to pay for this. It's called purchasing a video camera. SE had some reason for doing this. I am sure they knew that complaint central will open up because of this f/w upgrade. Maybe it was a mistake, or for some other reason but I am pretty sure someone was not sitting around saying, "how can we screw k750i owners over".

Here are 2 clips taken before and after the update.
Play them at 200% playbacksize to better compare the compression artifacts.
1. first clip taken before update, taken indoor in poor lightingconditions, movement in the scene, almost no compressionartifacts even at 200% playbacksize, recorded videobitrate 190kbit/s, very usable quality.

2. second clip taken after update, taken outside in optimum sunny lightingconditions, movement in the scene, lots and lots of compressionartifacts, recorded videobitrate 68kbit/s, completely useless quality.

Wow, that is quite poor compared to the first. Even my K700i records better video than that! SE do some strange things sometimes! |

who really cares? I mean how many of you use the video recording facility anyway? and if you do then dont upgrade the firmware!!!?
whats the big fuss about? |

naturally theres a fuzz
some do use the video function, when it functions good.
the phone even offers a VideoDJ option. Its designed to be able to do this at a reasonable quality. I see no reason to suddenly change from usable quality to unusable quality, that makes no sense.
Dont update firmware you say ? now that is a poor argument, firmware is updated to fix other important issues, like crashing and freezing etc. naturally you would want to update your firmware.

@ ripkord
I have used the video on many a nights out, record some funny/strange/insane things. It's always good as the next day you can show people who may have missed out or send it to someone and show them what they did whilst drunk.
For the video to suddenly become lower quality (i.e. slight distances are unviewable) is unacceptable. It's a good feature and used by many people. I don't see any reason to hamper it like that, unless they have increased the compression to be able to get more seconds in per MMS (especially with the 100kb limit on most networks). |
