Interesting post, especially the Xperia S part. We'll see indeed.

Screw them .... show them this!!

Research house IDC released its latest numbers for its Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker earlier today. According to their numbers, Huawei leap-frogged Sony to take third place in global smartphone shipments in calendar Q4 2012. IDC estimates that Sony Mobile sold 9.8 million smartphones in Q4, versus the 8.8 million smartphones it sold in the three months to September 2012

I'm not too sure I can believe those rumoured specs about the phablet. Anything with 3GB of RAM in it makes me really suspicious for the reason I explained on XDA:

All recent processors use dual-channel memory, and running 3GB in dual channel would require two 1,5GB RAM chips or whatever they use, and that is just not going to happen. RAM is pretty much always made in multiples of 2, so you go 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1024MB, 2048MB, 4096MB and so on. The next amount of RAM in phones will be 4GB, and that won't be any time soon (in my opinion) since it is completely unnecessary for Android.

3GB could theoretically happen if they choose to go with a single channel setup, but that would just be an absolute waste of memory bandwidth and I can't see that happening.

i don´t think that it will pay off so much for Apple if they make one, i don´t like the idea of a Smart watch really

There is 750MB RAM, used in HTC/Samsung devices. 750x2 = 1.5GB RAM (for sony 2013 mid range)

1.5 x 2 = 3GB RAM

Sure it's possible those use 768MB RAM, but I suspect it's in a single-channel setup with 512MB+256MB chips. But I might be wrong, couldn't find any detailed information on them. I still highly doubt we'll see 1.5GB or 3GB RAM phones from Sony. 768MB or 1532MB RAM chips are very, very rare and probably hard to acquire which seriously reduces the probability we'll see any of these. Any other setup (1GB+512MB or 2GB+1GB) results in loss of dual channel and that is another thing I highly doubt they'd leave out.

We've heard these 1.5GB/3GB rumours before about Sony devices and they never turned out to be true. They could be, I just think it is very, very unlikely. I'm seeing if I can get some information from someone I know.
