If Sony merges its Walkman PMP's, Android and SE then it sounds great. Doesn't sound imminent though. Sounds a couple of years away to me.

Well their main strength now comes from the great User Experience of their UI. i must say they are doing the right thing on rachael, i hope we can see more of this from Vulcan as well. looking at the contacts app of rachael i remember the awesome UIQ proto on their showroom. i hope we can see those implemented on both smartphones.
I really want to see rachael and vulcan coming with all the features and eye candy shown at the UIQ showroom.

Eh, no.
Multi touch was around way before apple could put the letters P, H, O, N and E together with an i in front of it. All they managed to patent was their gestures and even those could be thrown out of the window because other companies that supposedly developed similar ideas before Apple are currently suing them.
Apple doesn't innovate. They just say it enough times so that people start to believe them.
So yeah, there's every chance that Rachael may have multi touch. Personally, I couldn't care less. A PSP works fine for my gaming needs and double tap to zoom works swell in web browsers. |

Which is exactly what I said. That patent covers a combination of multi-touch tech and gestures, not the idea of multi-touch itself.
You can't patent an idea. You can only patent an implementation of the idea. e.g. A car that runs on tender love and care can't be patented. A specific implementation of the idea with diagrams showing how the technology works can be.
In any case, here goes: http://www.internetnews.com/h[....]ued+Over+Multitouch+Patent.htm
This thread is not about Apple, so that's the last I'm gonna say about that.

hmm, not sure I now of any mobile phone with a multi touch screen that didn't require the use of a stylus and featured as standard a brand new full finger touch OS that's incredibly easy to use before the iPhone? |

look the API's that were just released for the new version of android include multitouch, chill out its not the end all be all, what im more concerned with are the release dates and RAM/ROM. |
