It won't happen. Sony is no apple (these days). They need premium H/W to compete |

I think Sony is one of the few companys that can handle the business similar to Apple. They don't need the best processor or biggest screen to compete. They have nice cameras, they have the Walkman brand and they have the most beautiful UI in the Android world. AND they have the best phone designers. So I think with good materials for the phone and the right marketing even a device with little outdated specs could be a game breaker. Just do it...
For Sony, last time maybe. But certainly not today. |

Sony and Samsung have decided to part ways on their seven-year-old LCD venture. Possibly due to Sony's recent struggles in the increasingly competitive world of TV division, Samsung will buy up its 50 percent share for around $939 million. The Japanese company has agreed to a new strategic agreement to source Sammy's LCDs in the future and, according to Sony, will continue "cooperative engineering efforts focused on LCD panel technology." Its full explanation follows after the break. |

Sony needs to introduce new things that are not yet exploited in the market, or give their phones the strength of their other lines, simply put.. they need distinction from the overrated multicore SoC competition. A dual core will be as fluid as a quad core with proper programmers just as how redundant it is to have a camera resolution beyond 12 megapixels. I honestly think Sony needs to start tolling their CCDs on their phones as the CMOS is not really that good for smaller sensors, of course in APS~ size they had replaced CCDs for a while now but in cameras/camera phones i can still find some CCD cameras beating the likes of Sony digicams armed with Exmor CMOS. take for example a Canon A800 vs a Sony WX10 where the former wipes the floor on raw image quality even without using their burst-then-combine whatever technology to produce a less noise output.

Great stuff. I guess we can say goodbye to the 2011 rumours thread. Thanks once again to all the great commenters and debaters who continue to make this a great place to drop into.
