[*] K800 variant
Slightly improved specs but in a different form factor (very likely to be clamshell). Launched at the end of the year. True successor to the Z800. May also be SO903i variant.
[*] Canceled swivel
Rectangular white swivel. Larger than the 7370 so could've been W900 successor. Canceled to fit more mass market. Maybe changed to slider?

I can confirm these 2, the z800 successor went back to drawing board as the k800i and z610i are selling well enough. you can see parts of the work realized on the so903i. there're a couple of issues
1. walkman branding vs vodafone's (and hutchison 3's) music service
2. cost: if SE were to release something like s0903i outside japan, it'll be as expensive as sharp 903. the money went into the screen, the stereo speakers and the camera module now. will people still pay for it when Europeans are so extremely price elastic. the target crowd would be the 903 upgraders, might as well take advantage of Sharp since they're reacting even slower, and the crowd that is just done with the 903 contract.
3. supply: will there be enough Yamaha chips and 2.7"-3.0" screens? will the technology go outdated by the time the factories have saved up stocks for a global launch?
4. external panel design (and software to come with that): 2nd color screen? illumininated music buttons? or just flashy light effects? or the mirror OLED
the cancelled swivel looked almost like an iriver clix, a lot bigger of course, pulled off last minute when the sales manuals were in print. made way for the w44S. no promise of re-using the design. the thing was a bit flimsy and unpopular within the development team
update: ah might as well give you a glimpse of the cancelled device, does no harm really, you can reflect to SE if you really like it

are you saying this unit is real and was cancelled!?!?!?
oh my goodness, this is much better looking than the previous shown with the metal finish etc. why did they cancel it? what's wrong with SE?
thanks for the pic anyway |

it is indeed by SE, staff in London should have played with it too.
now would somebody like to confess?
the screen is 2.7", so you can predict how big this thing is, and how hard it is to make the swivel hinge sturdy

so thats why they cancel it? theyre havin difficulties attaching a sturdy swivel device.
how bout you? you have some firm insights about these... what are the reason for canceling... just because K800 are doin good sales doesnt mean they hafta stop from there... they could play around with more attachments right? |

they realized that swivel is not the only formfactor that can be used when it comes to digital-TV devices
SE japan has a really strong sense of SONY in them, that the product has to speak loudest for the company. as you can see from all of the SE domestic mobile phones, they all have a really strong wow factor
SE at that time considered the swivel as boring, the swivel hinge is a problem, but the biggest problem is that they thought the first SE digital-TV phone must have something more unique, in order to capture a larger fan base. so they waited for the digital radio to become ready, and shoved everything into the dual-hinge W44S.
that's the story
eventually the W43S settled for a 12LED flashy external panel with exchangeable facets. (yes, the swivel phone is supposed to be called W43S if it were to be released, and the 12LED thing was only used for marketing analysis)
the W44S went for the dual-open mechanism, trust me the final product is already looking much much much better than the old prototype (I think i've posted pics of that old proto on mobile-review before..)
both of them are (and going to be) bestsellers, the so903i is also really popular, just right behind sharp sh903i, but that's expected

What r the specs of ŽAiŽ?? It seems like a slim w800/w810 with probably worst cam (2.0mpx without autofocus). I didnŽt like the design... it looks cheap and unfinished and may i say what an awful keypad solution. What happened to the good old days when still used to make really confortable keys like t630/k700? The ŽaiŽ is probably just an opportunity for to cash on the same platform for the third time, using a diferent design. The only thing that would make these phones more than a simple grasp for money would be the presence of big internal flash memory (like 4gb), then it would have something new tech wise and it would look better for the brand and it would have a least ONE thing new. However, i believe this phone is adressed to the mid/low end market so it will probably be cheap and have no flash memory. K800 is still the best mass phone at the moment and it will continue to be for several months if things continue like this. |

i would like SE to make a phone in size of T66 or T600 with a basic specs.. i think if they could make it very small and nice looking for a decent price of cource it could be a hit. Not only top notch phones sell! |

Ai is not ugly, it is extremely ugly. I really don't know how they could come up with this design. |

@Xumdeo
So what was Ophira? Was that the cancelled device? Was it 3.2mp?
We can see why the cancelled device was flimsy as the pivot was above the at the very top handset.

@goldenface
if you remember the k800i had similarities to the already released at the time s903i (dont know if thats the right model number, jap phone though with 3.2mp) features wise, etc...
So i would have to say the Euro Bravia phone will be similar/based on the w44s, so should be either a flip/hinge, or even a swivel, even though said no more swivels....

I'll assume you're referring to the SO902i. I am sure that was a smartphone but the K800i wasn't far behind in the cam department.
Its my guess that the W44s will be heavily restyled for the Euro market and it will have to have a hinge and/or swivel to accommodate that huge screen anyway.
That W44s is definitely a Sony.

Come on its not all that bad
They will certainly come up with a better design in the future, but as its a first for with a thin phone, its not that bad.

Regarding the last pic, is it just me or is the phone curved at the top?
