After all this hoo-ha, did anyone conclude if this was vapourware or not? Anyone have a UK sourced P800?? Does it have night-shot or zoom on the camera, a Carl Zeiss lens, tripod, tea-stirring extension, etc. |

I use the top-of-the-line Sony Cybershot DSC-F717 digital camera,..it has night-shot and night-framing modes,..infrared 3 point...and a class 1 Laser pointer/framing.
And you do need eg infrared (measurements) to take nightshots.
Night shot is basically taking pictures in pitch-black,...and the picture will display that way.
Night-framing works differently,...you shoot the picture in the dark, but the flash opens up,..and the picture will look like daylight,...very impressive,..it works very well
I never use digital zoom on my cam,..it distorts the images, as it is software, trying to do the work (not real optical zoom).
But of course it will in some way help a camera, that does not have a zoom at all
So this could be possible,...and I believe a video-recorder-program is available for the Nokia 7650,..guess this could be made for P800 as well.

Thanks for the info Jan, I have one of the older Sony cybershots myself but was just wondering if after all the discussions and name-calling over the validity of the info, if the official UK phones had the features that were mentioned?
I also think digital zoom is a bit pointless (you can always zoom in later when you have the pic on your PC), but some kind of enhancement for low-light conditions would be good. A flash is the obvious solution but I don't want to carry an attachment around all day on the off chance I might want to take a quick snap indoors! |

Dunno mate, that's what I'm trying to find out, or is there actually any upgrade at all?
By the lack of people posting about it I think that the info we got was wrong and the UK spec P800's don't have zoom or night-mode on the camera. Perhaps this will be available in a later firmware upgrade (April?) as mentioned on mobil.se...? |

JammatJam,
if you do have these features then can you post some proof please? Like what options are in the phone software? And maybe a screen shot if you can.
I have zoom feature when you look at existing photos with the camera software. But there is no night option. Only 5 choices of lighting.

I doubt that SE will release an updated P800 (with extra HARDWARE features) to the UK public only.... remember, the P800 was released in europe early january and arriving in the UK late feb. So u guys are tellin me that within this period SE decided to make yet another change to the p800 hardware..while it was being tested by UK networks....and release it in the UK only.... me thinks not. cus peeps in europe are gunna get really pissed and Orange is gunna get a headache if they have indeed sold 'older' p800's to the public.
Most likely, as mentioned previously this will be a firmware update. zoom will be digital, and 'night vision' will be a software feature.

i personally dont believe this report. se will have a lot of angry customers if they did..
picture quality can be improved with software as i think the interlaced artifacts indicate software bugs in compression or capture. |

What a load of tosh.
Oh, and that guy who works for the car phone ware house?
Yea right.
You would expect him to be able to spell the name of the company he works for.
Look - if you can't afford a P800, just forget about it... stop trying to make people who do have one regret buying it.
The P800 will have no hardware changes made to it in this guise. This phone will have been 18 months or so in development, you can't just change hardware willy nilly... it doesn't happen like that.
Firmware is another issue - maybe they can improve the pathetic camera in the next firmware. |

That hurt my eyes to read, you should really spend an extra 20 seconds going through what you write, also add a couple commas (,) and period`s (.) |

You are just a troll. Your thread is only slightly more believeable than the threads which insist that the next version will include a toaster.
As I said, I am very happy with my P800 and I feel sorry for those who can't afford one... I can't afford a Ferrari however - that doesn't mean that I go to a Ferrari forum and make stupid posts on there about how the next model will make their current cars irrelevant and worthless. |
