@Chris and Rook.
Guys, I can make my phone reboot at will. I demonstrated it today, 6 times in a row. I can make it reboot or at least in some cases control the rebooting. Here is something I want you to test if you do not mind.
Make a call with your phone, and lay it down while it is calling. Try laying it next to or on top of your computer, desk or laptop, lay it down on your TV and see if it reboots in any of these occasions. Now, make a call and lay the phone on the floor completely away from everything and see if it reboots.
Let me know what happens.

Ive placed my s700i on top of a small tin box with a cloth inbetween the tin and the phone when you call the phone number of your s700i it reboots again, just proves there somthing wrong, can this be software ? I dont think so maybe it will cost se to much to replace all s700i handsets thats why they have ro records of this problem,
I hope Watchdog can help us here...!! se could give us a free K750i for our troubles |

It could mean that the phone is not shielded properly and susceptible to EMP. I can make it crash at will. The thing is, the normal service techs will have no idea what to do, and will get that "deer in the headlights" look and go "uhhhh. never saw this before". This goes all of the way up to the top, i.e. SE engineers. I am sure that they had, have, and would not have had an idea about this.
I recommend that we archive this thread so that it can be shown to SE. Chris or Rook, I think that we should contact Laffen and see how to save this thread and forward it to SE.

Sorry to disapoint you, but there is no point at all in contacting watchdog.
They have their own agenda, and if your issue doesnt fit they wont take it up. I've first hand experience of this.
Even if they do take the story up, it might put a different slant on the story than what you want.
For the record I can make calls on my fone, sat right infront of my pc. (mine is an unbranded S700i) on 02 from The Link. |

Agreed about Watchdog, considering that I have never heard from them. I think that main problem is that there is a design flaw rather than a software issue. The fact that yours is o2 and works, as opposed to mine being a brand new, from the factory model shows that the common denominator is the design of the phone. Not software. I think that the problem that some of us are facing is the phone's processor is being bombed by waves from external devices.

Just tried mine and it certainly does reboot when placed on or next to any electricial equipment. If I make a call and hold/stand it upwards on my pc etc it works fine.
The main problem I face it that it reboots when I'm in a car. Either driving or otherwise and the bluetoothe cuts out more often as well.
@Csi. My friend has an O2 branded S700 and an Orange branded S700 and they are experiencing the same problems. They've just done the test and got the same results.
Btw. Do the reboot trick and after its restarted. Check you redial list.

This should verify that in a way SE was correct in that it is not a S/W issue. They probably do not know that their or our phones are probably being affected by EMP and metal surfaces. As another test, I placed mine, on my other computer (Compaq), it was turned off, and boom.... Reboot. It seems that the brand of computer does not matter as I have a Mac and Windoze PC. The phone must be reacting to some magnetic sources. We do need to go public with this though.
@CSI
Can you try the test around a TV, not just the metal pad. My reasoning is that maybe the metal pad is grounded and not able to effect the phone.. Try sitting it on a computer, near the processor or somewhere in the area.

@All the rebooters ,
Can we try to get a tally of the types of phones. Branded, unbranded, o2, Vodafone, E-Plus, etc...?
I have had two phones. One E-Plus and generic. Both rebooters.
Maybe we need to even start a new thread so that we can add these up and send the results to WatchDog and SE.

Also, can we try to get some photographic proof, i.e. photo's or videos? This seems to be an interesting problem that will need documentation.
