Crackers turn Sony Ericsson W800i into the second iTunes phone

Link

21 September 2005 - Want to hear your iTunes tracks on your Sony Ericsson W800i? We thought you did. Engadget, the American tech blog has uncovered a site that will allow you to do just that.

iTuneMyWalkman is a homebrew iTunes script that will help you synchronize the contents of iTunes playlists with you Sony Ericsson Walkman phone. The play lists can be either regular or smart ones. The script can also automatically detect when you connect your phone, and will ask you if you want to synchronize. When the files have been copied, you can Eject the phone.

The synchronization happens one way only, from computer to the phone. All songs that are on the phone's memory card, but not on iTMW's playlists will be deleted from the phone. Please keep this in mind if you are using the phone with more than one computer.

The playlists themselves are not synchronized, only the tracks within them. Unchecked tracks and music from bought from the iTunes Music Store are not uploaded.

The catch is that it wont work with iTMS purchased songs but still it’s a start.

It's hardly a crack - it's just an AppleScript for the Mac OS X version of iTunes that automates the process of copying audio files (MP3 and AAC) to the phone.

Being an AppleScript means it doesn't work with Windows, of course!

What is a crack is the program called jHymn which removes the DRM protection from iTunes Music Store downloaded tracks, so that they can be played back on non-iPod devices.

Pity it doesnt work with PC, only Mac.
I like the look of the W800i. I also dont want carry around my phone and an mp3 player with me so I got the W800i as it does both.

Hi All,

I have a Windows version of the W800i on iTunes script called "Mass Storage Syncronizer". However, I can't seem to get it to work properly. It just keeps telling me that my Walkman phone doesn't have enough memory to copy over songs eventhough the memory stick is empty???

Here's a link to the program/script:

Note that the site is being bombarded right now and so it's really hard to get through.

It would be cool if the thing really worked.

EDIT: Here's the article that talks about it:

Hi All,

nemik over on HoFo was nice enough to host the MSS file for us all. Here's the download link:

Enjoy it and please do let me know if it works for you.

For Windows user, what's wrong with Disc2Phone software? I think Disc2Phone's just fine so we don't need any iTunes software to work with our W800i. Besides, if the iTunes script works only one way (songs in W800 will be replaced by iTunes library as iPod did), what's the point then?

Programmers are always happy to try anything even if they appear to be pointless. In the end though once it works, they sometimes get more credit than they expected.
