W800i R1BC002 m4a tags |

I just updated my W800i to R1BC002. Everything seems fine, except for m4a tags in the media player. In the previous firmwares (R1NA005 and R1AA008), the midiaplayer would read the tags from my m4a files (aac format encoded by iTunes) and show artist, title and album on the "now playing" screen. Not so with R1BC002 - now the media player only shows the file name.
Does anybody have a work-around? |

I can confirm this one... What a bummer!
Maybe this is why the firmware wasn't "really" available from SEUS yet.
I guess that's what we get for being early adopters. [GRIN] |

I think that too, thanks god (this time) my phone is on repair (i'm getting a new one) cause other way i would have updated it by now, and i only have m4a too!!. Hope this get fixed cause other way updating wouldn't be worthive. I'm gonna wait a litle longer before updating. |

One thing is strange though: With the R1AA008 firmware I made a playlist containing all my tracks (m4a) on the phone. When I play this playlist, it shows the tag information perfectly in the "now playing" window. However, if I make a new playlist with R1BC002 it only shows the filename. Strange! |

Only to name your files "artist - songname.m4a". This is what I have to do on the K750 (the K750 doesn't read m4a tags on any firmware - only W800 can read m4a idtags). By naming them that way I can either sort by artist or date put on the phone. The only way to sort by songname is to use mp3's (for which K750 can read id tags).

on the k750 I do track-song name and then put them in separate folders for each artist. This way I make a play list for each artist I have and they are sorted by track number. (for m4a files) |

I know for a fact that the metadata/idv3/idv2 tags appear in the "now playing" screen, but when you browse through M4As, they all get listed under unknown artist > unknown album.
those who are on r1a (w800), do your m4a files appear under artists > album name?
(i have W600 and it doesnt even display metadata in the now playing screen for M4As) |

@tervel, that's not a bad idea also. It's quite easy to make up playlists from folders, so if you are used to using the cable you can easily drag and drop songs around into new folders and then make a playlist out of those folders on the phone.
@kabukijep, K750 doesn't read id tags of m4a(only for mp3). W800 does, but there is some reports that r1bc has broken this ability forthe W800

hey max- W550/R4CB020 both (1) displays metadata in the now playing screen, and (2) sorts tracks by artist/album for M4A files, which is a great great thing, as I can go as low as 80kbps on M4A and it sounds just as good as 128kbps MP3 on my 5.1 setup at home. i posted other changes i've noticed so far in the firmware thread |

Cool, shame K750 dips out on m4a idtag support

weirdly enough, 80kbps m4a and 128kbps mp3 files sound virtually the same on my 5.1 setup; however on the hpm-70 the m4a tends to garble.. ive switched to 128kbps m4a files instead- better quality for the same file size. too bad the memory is limited to 256mb. cant wait for the w810.. |

Could it be possible to bring back m4a tag support using FAR manager?

yes. All my mp4's have m4a extensions. Ripped with dbpoweramp. Long story to do with windows file associations, but using m4a extension for non-itunes ripped aac tunes
