w810i AAC-HE problem |

OK apparently the W810i supports AAC-HE and AAC+ (The w800 and K750 do not, but K800 users could try this)
However, when I encode a High Complexity AAC file using Nero, it sounds great on the PC (e.g. played in Nero Showtime) but the phone only seems to play the underlying Low Complexity stream, thus the music sounds rubbish and muffled.
How can I get the phone to play AAC-HE properly?
Try what I did and you'll see what I mean
Cheers

bump... NO-ONE seems to know much about this, note w800 and k750 do not support this codec, but W300, W550, W600, W810, W900, Z530, K610, K790, K800 do

As far as I know, W810 doesn't support advanced AAC decoding, where did you read that info ?
BTW, it's really a firmware related so I want to ask SE officials why they didn't include such support in this phone ?! |

I read it from the official SE specs, I didn't make the thing up!

My point is support IS supposed to be included but I can't get it to work. |

Try then AAC simple . It has still good quality. I tryed on NOKIA 6230 ( 2004 fone ) and it sounds very good AAC ... so this model it must have better cappabilities! Cheers. |

I've converted a song for You , just leave me you're mail adress to send it. It should play without prob , and at good quality. |

And one thing more. I converted now a song in AAC , i selected LFP profile , and also with MS Stereo and LFE futures checked . And guess what, it doesen't play , guess i need a specific decoder . So my advice, use normal AAC encoding and it should work perfectly . Even with simple AAC you still get superior quality than MP3's. |

Thank you and I appreciate your help but I am not a noob, I'm very proficient and know how to encode in AAC, infact I am using it already.
I'm simply trying to work out if the phone has a specific requirement ie 32kHz 44.1khz bit rate CBR VBR etc in order to play HE-AAC, not basic AAC.
By using HE-AAC you can effectively make your files much smaller even than AAC whilst still keeping the same perceptual output quality.
Infact if YOU ask ME, I'll send you a HE-AAC track I've encoded at extremely low bitrate which will play properly in newer versions of Win Media Player, ie 10 or 11beta, or Nero Showtime or New Winamp, and you can guage the advantage it has over regular AAC.
Now can someone please tell me why w810i won't play HE-AAC properly

From that same document, these standards are supposedly supported in W550/W810: WAV, AAC+, RA8
Ive had the W550 and the W810 now but neither was able to play any of the above formats (with the exception of WAV, which is dependent on the encoding)
I really think should be more careful about their WPs. If they say it supports WAVs partially, it should have been indicated there. I can only assume AAC+ and RA8 are supported partially too.. now it doesnt even say in the WP what specific parameters should be used when encoding in AAC+ and RA8 (I vaguely remember coming across something either in the W810 whitepaper or some other whitepaper the requirements for WAV encoding - but no traces for AAC+ or RA8 whatsoever neither in the WPs nor in the manual)

There is no AAC+, AAC-HE support in W810i phone/firmware, at least that's information from whitepaper released in march:
However, document you are referring is newer than whitepaper itself so I must conclude that someone either made some mistake (this is usually happening in SE documents, just remember unexisting flash support in K750) or maybe they are preparing new firmware to enable this feature. Things that I don't like are non-professional standpoint of SE stuff about hi-tech users that are actually using ALL features of their precious mobile phones.

Bladerunner,
I'm forced to come to exactly the same conclusions as you have, it is a little disappointing, however, I'll email SE and see what they have to say. Who knows, they may give me some specific parameters to use.
I'll post the reply here

hey guys, there's a simple solution to your problem. As you know, w810i supports M4A files, not only AAC, so i suggest you convert your mp3's into m4a instead of AAC so that you won't have any trouble playing it on your phone. I do this using iTunes, just configure your iTunes to convert MP3 files into 64Kbps M4A files and that's it, you can play AAC-like quality music on your w810! |
