K800i joystick: uh-oh |

Seems my K800i's joystick is heading the same way as my old W800i's. I've only had the phone for four weeks, and I usually keep it in my shirt's breast pocket, but already the joystick is becoming slightly unresponsive when pressing down. When I write a text message, it's becoming a pain to select alternative words using T9. Yesterday, I was trying to add tracks to a playlist, and the joystick either refused to move down, or it moved down two places. Very annoying.
I spent ten minutes cleaning all around the joystick and now things are good as new again. But I remember that my W800i did the same. Eventually, no amount of cleaning made a difference.
Anyway, I've ordered one of these. Hopefully, this should stop the dust getting in too much, and should be less tiring on the thumb!
Anyone else's joystick having any issues yet? |

Hmmm that looks interesting, that little button thingy. As for me??, havent really noticed the joystick becoming a problem although its a bit hard sometimes to get where you want it to go in the menu.

That really sad to hear. I can't believe didn't keep their promise of a revised and improved joystick. If it happens to me it could mean my last joystick phone.
BTW, how does that joystick cap work? do you have to remove the faceplate to install it?

Nope it just snaps on top of the joystick, ive ordered one so will report back once i have it...looks kinda neat and will make the joystick easier to grip i think. |

Well, with all the promises from SE about the improved, dust-resistant joysick design, its seemed to have failed. No different from the K750 from what I can gather.
The worst part is, is that it is possible to make a flawless joystick. Look at the K600/K608. Haven't heard one word of complaint about the joystick. All SE had to do was to copy the jostick over and no problems!

I had both k500 and k750 ,and before T630. the t630 worked great, the k500 one still does like in the first day I bought it,a year ago, but the k750 one ,after about 6-7 months was almoust unuseable when pressing down. I did not found any solution to this except replacing it. Even if you clean it the problem is under the joystick, where the contacts are,and you can't reach there,so if you have a problem just go to a SE service center and replace the damn thing !

One of the reasons i had enough of k8 was the joy, really uncomforteable and crap quality imo the k610 pad is far better

unfortuantely im having similar problems, ive only had it for ~4-5 weeks, im really dissappointed, dont know whether to take it back to o2 and ask for a replacement, my t630 never gave me any problems, although my t68i did, i should have just stuck to a phone with buttons like my good old s700 arrgh!
do you guys think o2 would replace it?
@shane, can i ask how you went about cleaning it? i would like to do this too
thanks

My joystick is the same. Very unresponsive in its downward direction. Bought the phone three weeks ago. |

That I've seen too with my own eyes, its ten times better, also the joy on my K800 was messed up with directions(all 8 directions),so you did feel it when playing a game, just moved in wrong directions, that and the low sounds made me sell it.

Had a K750 for a while and never had any problems with the joystick during the time I had it. Made a point of keeping it clean with a soft toothbrush. I now have a W810, as I wanted to get away from the joystick phones.
