After trying dozens of IP addresses for the Yahoo! pop and smtp servers (there are many), I have been able to access my mail account over a circuit switcheed connection.

In the email options, configure an account

Connect using: a GSM ciruit switched data account or GPRS account that you have previously successfully set up. With my service provider (Voicestream in USA, I can only use GSM CSD, not GPRS).

Pop3 server: 216.136.173.10
Pop3 port: 110

Mailbox, Password: (your Yahoo! username and password)

SMTP Server: 216.136.173.12
SMTP Port: 25

Email address: (the reply to address of your choice)
From Name, Signature (whatever you want)

Note: You have to specifically enable POP access to your Yahoo! mail account by visiting the options area of your mail account on the web. It's listed under "POP access and forwarding". Failure to do so will result in an error message indicating an incorrect login or password on the phone when sending/receiving. As of 4/24/2002, you must also have subscribed to premium access on your mail account, or you will not have POP access to your mail account.

Some people can use names (not ip numbers) for the Pop and SMTP servers. I think it all depends on your service provider.

Have You asked your operators if they are supporting POP3. My operator (Comviq, Sweden)didn't that until this week. So I have had ptroblems too. But now it works!

Succes using Email with a VIZZAVI (Vodafone) account.

When I typed the SMTP and POP3 servers into the settings by their names it never worked. But typing these addresses in number format makes it work a treat.

Zucchini, are you trying to access a Yahoo! mail account? Those IP addresses I listed were only for Yahoo!.

Zucchini,
I don't know why these settings don't work for you. I did have to try many combinations of IP addresses to get it to work. There is one more thing you could try.

Incidentally, it just happened to start working when I:

1. First opened up a wap connection and LEFT IT OPEN (when "remain connected" appears, choose yes)

2. Then went to the email send/receive

I don't know if this made it work for the first time or not or whether it was the IP address. If this works for you, let me know. Subsequently, I don't have to first open a wap connection to send/receive.

Where do you guys find all these IP-adresses?

Probably by running the following UNIX commands:

[laffen@zapina dir]$ host pop.mail.yahoo.com
pop.mail.yahoo.com is a nickname for pop.vip.sc5.yahoo.com
pop.vip.sc5.yahoo.com has address 216.136.173.10
pop.vip.sc5.yahoo.com mail is handled (pri=1) by nomail.yahoo.com

[laffen@zapina dir]$ host smtp.mail.yahoo.com
smtp.mail.yahoo.com is a nickname for smtp.mail.vip.sc5.yahoo.com
smtp.mail.vip.sc5.yahoo.com has address 216.136.173.12

You can also find ip addresses by using web based, reverse dns lookup pages. Try using a search engine to find "reverse IP lookup" or "reverse DNS lookup". That's how I did it. Then, you just type the NAME of your Pop/SMTP server in and it will give you an IP address.

This Yahoo thing seems to be working fine with my friend's account (tried it out on my phone), but not with mine.

Any guesses or suggestions (apart from switching e-mail address with my friend)?

Thx
