Hi there,

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Bluetooth receiver on Ebay to use with my TomTom on my P990 phone.
Last Friday when coming home from work I found an invitation asking me to go and get a registered mail at the post office. I thought it was the BT receiver shipped from Hong-Kong but what a disapointment when I saw how thin the envelope was. And that wasn't all : after opened it I discovered a letter sent by the Belgian Customs.
If you understand Dutch you can read it by yourself at the bottom of the message.

In short, the Customs wrote that they held the BT receiver because that one is illegal and doesn't meet the European requirements for such devices. Reason why they have confiscated it.
And if I don't want to get in trouble with the justice I should send them a copy of my Id + everything relevant I want them to attached to the file.
I also had to fill a form accepting that I reject any responsabilities or link to that illegal thing if not penalties will follow.

This is really the first time I've to deal with such kind of problem. So I quickly replied and gave them all they wanted.
Afterwards I immediately claimed for reimbursement of what I paid through Paypal to the seller. I explained him everything and wait for his reaction.

Have you already had such a case ?

Thanks for sharing,

That sound a bit suspiious if you ask me. What sort of things did they ask you to provide?

I found it also very suspicious first then went on their website to see how serious this could be.
And indeed they work for the state in collaboration with different public entities like the postal one.
All they asked was a legible copy of my id card, and to fill in a short form accepting in all freedom to take distance with the confiscated illegal device.
If I don't take distance with it then I'm considered as knowing and encouraging illegal business. I ask advice to a colleague who's lawyer and he advised me to fill in the form and give the copy of my id card wich is for their records.
He said that if I don't the case will be brought to the court and there are big chance that the judge see me as co-operating with them by the fact I didn't take distance of the object. And that can cost me a lot.
