It seems that phones from the S700i/S710a onwards no longer make the network (carrier) name visible to devices. I've noticed this with Parrot car kits, as well as the Blue Phone Elite software on my Mac. In fact, this is one (perhaps the one and only) area where even Motorola outshines .

From my history of GSM phones, here are the ones that do display the carrier name over the aforementioned connections:

  • T616
  • T637
  • Moto V551
  • Moto RAZR V3
  • Moto RAZR V3i
  • Moto PEBL U6


And the ones that don't? S710a, W810, W300...

I guess there was a change in the (AT?) command(s) to query the network name, and no 3rd-party developer knows what it is now?
