As part of my own Esato experiment I want to explore using my W810 with my car stereo, for both (handsfree) voice calls and music. How do I accomplish this? The W810 has but not A2DP, so I can use for calls but would still need a wired connection for stereo music. (FM transmitters, please leave the room.) If I have to physically connect the phone to the car, then I may as well find a single connection that does both.

Obviously, I would first need the HCH-60 Car Holder, together with a proper dashboard mount. But what next?

There is the HCA-60 Advanced Car Handsfree, which can be used with a HCE-26 Stereo Music mute. However, the FAQ page for it states, "I can't get the sound out through my rear speakers, only the front speakers seems to work: The Stereo Mute box HCE-26 is designed to be used for two front speakers." That won't do.

The MMC-60 Mobile Music Cable (together with an RCA aux-in adapter for the car stereo) would give me the sound I need, and I'm guessing would also play incoming calls over the speakers. But what about my voice - how I do talk to my caller without an external mic?

I'm not sure how to proceed. W810 owners, please advise! Thanks.

Of course, I could always replace my W810 with a W610, and then simply install a stereo car kit, like the Parrot MK6000

Without a2dp you cant do this but ill tell u what ive done with my w850i.

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=135032#post1824421
see pics here for the phone install in the car.

using car charger
and car holder (http://www.se-store.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=accessory.detail&ProductID=1154)
attached to this mount (http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop.php?action=productshow&id=55)

i then plan to fit this headunit
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=MEXBT5000

which plays your music via bluetooth and also acts as a handsfree kit with no need for an external mic. theres an inbuilt mic in the front of the unit to pick up your voice and the other person is played through the speakers.

There is a way around this.

The HCE-26 is designed to send the sound directly to the (front) speakers and not via the headunit to be amplified.

You would need to buy a signal converter to convert the High voltage (12V) speaker signal to a low voltage (2-5V) line in signal. Its a simple and inexpensive device.

EDIT: I think this is the device you want.

I'm still using my factory head unit. It lacks line-level inputs. Any other way to make the HCE-26 feed 4 channels instead of 2?

Also, are there any good pics of the HCH-60 Car Holder? I need to see its backside to found out more about how I would attach it to the car.

buy Sony mex 2500 (cheap, inbuilt BT carkit) and plug the phone with 3,5 jack into the front AUX-in. Also supports A2DP, you could keep it with your next phone

Thanks, but if I decide to invest in an aftermarket stereo, I'm getting an Alpine iDA-X001 Compatible with USB devices, iPods, HD radio, satellite radio, (handsfree and A2DP), and my factory steering wheel radio controls

Mmmm... nice! I've always liked Alpine Headunits especially the 3 disc in-dash units.

Did you realise that Headunit doesn't include A2DP or BT handsfree as standard? You'll need this optional accessory: KCE-300BT

Couldn't see any mention of A2DP / AVRCP on that site.

@carkitter: You're right, you need that module add-on from Alpine. It's sweet, though - gives you full handsfree functionality, unlike its predecessor, which only had headset functions.

BTW, forget that head unit - it doesn't have a CD player Looks like this is the better deal (and it's $100 cheaper, too):

@Tehy03: I'd prefer a handsfree kit, believe me. But the W810 lacks A2DP - I have to make a wired connection to get the music off of it. As long as I'm physically plugging the phone into the car, I may as well find a single connection that does it all, right?

Also, these (link below) are my favorite car kits. They use ISO plugs, just like the sound system in my aging VW Golf, so it's a fairly simple plug'n'play. I've had the CK3000 and CK3200, which both work very well with phones. (However, the newer models don't convey the carrier name over ) I'll have to get that MK6000 when it's time to upgrade my phone, unless I buy the Alpine head unit first

I decided to go with HCA-60 Advanced Car Handsfree + HCE-26 Stereo Music mute, and HCH-61 Car Holder + Kuda phone base. I hope 2-speaker (instead of 4) playback isn't too awful.

Another thread here warned that when using RCA connections with the MMC-60 cable, all calls are taken in the handset itself, even if a handsfree is connected (Which also puts an end to any connection to a aftermarket head unit.)

I guess this is it, until offers a phone with A2DP in the USA...

Thanks to all for your help.

Another nice Alpine, however it requires the BT Adapter too.

This is obviously a policy decision by Alpine. Maybe they're testing the market to see how popular A2DP and BT handfree is... or maybe its a condition of thier 'Made for iPod' agreement with Apple?

I feel a conspiracy theory coming on...

ISO connectors are great when you're dealing with French and German cars but down here in the antipodes where the VAST MAJORITY of cars are Japanese or Australian, ISO compatible cars are fairly rare for carkit and stereo installers. Conversion cables are commonly available though.

Congratulations on your purchase; regarding the HCE-26 2 speaker issue, how old is your 'ageing' Golf? My experience with VW carkit installs has shown me that they often have Speaker-IN terminals in amongst the ISO plugs that you can connect to.

If you can find the OE Stereo model# plus the year of your car, and get back to me, I'll do a little research.

I'm not sure I follow? Yes, it needs the -300 module, which provides A2DP and AVRCP.

Thanks. It's an "A4" (4th-generation) Golf with the single-DIN radio, which uses the ISO plugs. I replaced the mediocre US-market one with an OEM Gamma unit from an eBay seller in the UK, so I have the TEL mute wire and other improvements. The plugs, and the pins to which they connect, are all identical - the only difference is, the US radio lacked the internals for TEL, line-level inputs, speedometer output, etc, etc, the list goes on.

I'm not sure what the VW part # on that one is, but I hope you have enough info by now.

I hope that you didn't already buy your HCH-60. the hch-61 is a purpose built phone holder specifically for w810 and other models, whereas the hch-60 is more like a universal holder. double check the model number on this holder. I bought the hch-61 and the w810 fits perfectly into it, while still allowing access to the volume controls on the phone. look here:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]=177&cid=0&acc_pid=10376&pid=0

EDIT: sorry, just noticed that you did get the hch-61. I saw the hce-60 and was confused.
