if i get an upgrade at smartnet, knowing that it is an ericsson authorized service center....
wouldn't it void the warranty of Semicon since i let "other" people touch the software...?
just makin sure coz i'm considering going to smartnet rather than semicon in marcos highway....
thanks...

I just had my upgrade (R1C -> R2B) done yesterday. Boy, it took Semicon almost two hours this time.
Aside from the features that were already discussed in this post http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=1525&forum=17&31 here are some that I see that were not discussed yet.
a) Font Consistency. This is the first thing I noticed. When the font is set to "small", "medium" or "large" the lists, the menus, everything follows the font settings now.
b) Better RF. In my judgement, the RF has improved. I now get two bars for what was zero or one, in a particular location.
c) GPRS is more sensitive, in relation to the above. Before I can't connect to GPRS if there's less than 3 bars. But now, I can connect and reliably use it even if signal is 1 bar. I can now surf, email, inside our bathroom.
d) GPRS is snappy. I'm not sure if a channel was added. T68 specs say 3 downstream and 1 upstream. If no channel was added, then it must have been optimized.
e) Scrolling on email and WAP is noticeably faster.
f) T9 input.. hah! No change. It still lags. But this is least important to me, personally.
g) I'm not sure if it's my eyes, but looks like there's a bit of improvement in color handling.
h) Tagalog was removed from the Menu language options! Was replaced by Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Malaysia.
I was dissapointed though that my HBH-15 was not upgraded. Because their upgrading machine cannot connect to SonyEricsson's server.
@gooms, check my post http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=1441&forum=2&start=20 for the official statement from SonyEricsson about MMS in the Philippines. The information in on page 2 of the discussion.

does this mean that smartnet only has R1C? not even R2B?

No. It won't void your warranty coz you don't need to open the unit just to have a software upgrade. And if needs to open the unit for repair, just present your proof of purchase to claim warranty. coz Smartnet is an authorized service center of Ericsson. In fact there are also an authorized service center of Motorola and Philips phones.

arnoldc, does the sonyericsson center make you pay for the upgrade like smartnet does? Where is it exactly anyway? I'm not so familiar with pasig eh. Thanks.
Also, can anyone comment on why there are occassions when I get an invalid mobile on top of the display where the operator is? Its bothering me. Can this be fixed by a firmware upgrade? Thanks everyone. |

You don't need to pay for the software upgrade as long as it still warranty. Smartnet is located at back of megamall, 5/F San Miguel Propertis Center, St. Francis st. Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong city.
I've never encountered that. Try to upgrade it, maybe it will help. |
