Hello All,

Firstly i would like to say how impressed i am with my new W960i what a difference from SE's previous ranges. I hav waited since oct for it.

What i aim to do is set my phone up so i can only access my internet and retrieve my pop emails via WLAN only.

The reason being is that i dont want to use the wap /gprs at present until i can move to a tariff that will include gprs free kb's etc..

I have removed the internet profile that contains all the wap settings, i have set up my email pop settings for my emails, i have set up my W960i to connect to my netgear router (courtesy of sky broadband)

I have also set for my home wlan to be set as my first priority

When i attempt to download my email for example, it keeps coming back saying my pop settings are wrong. I have checked with sky broadband and they are correct.

Please could someone explain how i can set my phone up so i am only using WLAN for internet and email

Your help would be appreciated

Thanks

Barrie

You need to change your preferred Group to be the one with the WLAN connection.

Go to internet accounts and click the "groups" tab - do you have an internet one? If not then create it and add your WLAN connection. Then set it as the preferred group.

It's worth setting your W960 to run in flight mode whilst mucking around!

Thanks for the tips

I manually enable 'WLAN' so it is activated and makes a connection between the phone and router no problem.

Just after checking my internet account, in the 'groups' section, i have only my router showing as 'home' this is priority 1

I will have to re-test this tonight when i get home

I had reall grief getting it work work. It would connect OK but I'd get "cannot locate remote server" in the browser on connecting with the account that had my WLAN connection. Turned out that AES was the culprit. Now using TKIP and it works fine.

Thanks Deeko for the reply, however i am using WEP encyption as my laptop doesnt support wpa.

So far i am still having the same problem, when i connect using WLAN to retrieve emails i get this: "The sending has failed because the account has errors in its server settings"

This is my current setup:

Netgear router which the W960i can connect to (although i cannot access the internet via WLAN by clicking on the web icon, i get the web address has failed error, even changing to different address fails. I have turned off 3G)

I am working in Flight Mode so that if any mistakes are made i am not being charged

In my W960i, i have setup email account using all the settings that i use in outlook to retrieve my emails from SKY BROADBAND who is my isp. I have setup POP and SMTP, and changed the SSL security settings.

I have set this email account up to use my WLAN connection to connect to the internet to send / retrieve emails. my home WLAN is set at priority 1.

Does this make sense? In my internet account i only see one connection which i created myself which is my home WLAN network. If needed my mobile provider is Vodafone UK

Your Help Would be Grateful

barrie - do you get allocated a ip address (on the W960) that is in range of what your router would allocate?

When my connection was bad my phone showed an IP address of 169.264.something.something rather than 192.168.11.something. There was also no valid connection showing in my firewall admin page ("Client Monitor" - I've got a Buffalo).

If you've got an IP address that looks OK try pinging it from your PC or another device on your network (dunno if there's an UIQ3 ing program that could also do it the other way).

I have to admit your problem sounds similar to mine - all my stuff failed with DNS problems which is probably what you're getting when it tries to resolve the POP3/SMTP addresses.

BTW - I think WEP keys must be entered in hex format - are you doing this?

Cheers,

Derek.

Hello Deeko1

Thanks for all your help

I checked my router and that was set up to dish out DHCP addresses, i removed the original wireless account and recreated it using the wep code and my ip address then shown it was a normal one.

I can connect to internet and check emails using WLAN

Thanks for your advice

Hi,

I am having the "unable to locate remote server" issue and my W960i is connected to my linksys router.

My router's wireless security is disabled. I am using the MAC filter function for my laptop.

Are you able to advise on this issue I am facing?

Thank you.

I am having the same problem.

Phone connects to router.
But cannot use internet connection.
The IP address on the phone looks good.
Other devices get kicked off the router.

Has anybody had any luck with this?

Hi,

try going into the WLAN account and goto MORE > Advance section and turn the powersave > OFF. i had problem getting on the web and it kept saying 'cannot locate remote server' (very annoying i might add) however i was connected to the router. for some reason by altering the powersave it worked...

hope this helps..
