Mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson and The Carphone Warehouse have teamed up with hip hop and RnB label Def Jam Records to offer customers a limited edition handset.
As part of the deal, which is understood to be a first in the UK, Sony Ericsson will be preloading handsets with audio and video content from the record label’s artists, which incude Mariah Carey, Rihanna and Nas.
The limited edition white and gold W910i Walkman handset and matching MPS 75 speakers in black and gold will be available exclusively from The Carphone Warehouse in the UK from 8 April.
Kim de Ruiter, commercial and new business manager at Mercury Music Group, the label responsible for Def Jam in the UK, said: “Joining our unique Def Jam artists with Sony Ericsson in this way allows us to reach a targeted audience in an interesting and relevant way, while at the same time entering a new, non-traditional music retail space to market our acts.”
As part of Sony Ericsson’s mobile music partnership with the record label, consumers will also be eligible to enter a competition to win a one off customised W910i handset designed in collaboration with Def Jam.
George Dymond, UK trading director at The Carphone Warehouse, added: “Mobile Life research reveals that nearly 40 per cent of people download and listen to music on their mobiles rising to well over half of young people. We are excited to bring them such a great range of Def Jam content on the W910i.”

Lovely Mariah ... damn she's just perfect. Sexy, sweet, down to Earth in her dress attire when she feels like it, and great smile ... homegirl kinda like.
Rihanna ... A woman of my heritage ... its amazing after her first two albums how she changed her music so. I'm glad she grew up from being a backayard, or yardi gal ... but I'm sure she's still "out of many" girl at heart.
Nas?! Love date boy since time! One Love ... he's evolved and matured and definately a credit to this game. HE is what LL Cool J should've evolved to.
I cannot WAIT to hear ringtones of them instead of SE's preloaded, along with exclusive video releases and interviews loaded on M2 cards shipped with phones.
