This is surprising when you consider that O2 have been bleating on about there not being much room for more smartphones in their portfolio. I'm guessing it won't be on one of their cheaper tariffs.

I don't see this being a business phone only. It is aimed at all type of people. Most people are callin this phone the next big thing next to the iphone. From what i have heard its been had alot of input from ex apple engineers. But what is suprising me is that it seems to be a network exclusive for o2. As in the usa its only being sold on sprint. |

Not sure where this would fit into O2's arsenal really - they don't need an iPhone killer after all. Or do they?

True but smartphones are booming and I think its a good move for O2, they've certainly put the willies up Vodafone. Its a massive coup. You want the latest smartphone? People now won't look much further than O2 by the looks of it.

Not sure why your saying your going to be forced to move to O2. If you don't want to be on O2, then just buy it sim free or outside the UK and put your sim in it.

If this is in direct competition to the iphone why has O2 taken it on? Or am i just being blind?

if this is in direct competition with the iphone, then surely its better for o2 to have both otherwise they would lose sales to another carrier that had the PRE.
this way they get it all! what the customer taketh away on the iphone side, they giveth back on the PRE side!

Makes sense i guess. Whats going on with the other networks then why are they not getting no exclusives its getting boring with O2 getting everything.

The general idea why O2 have both is this.
The Pre is Palm's last chance before going tits up, so if they gave it to a network like T-Mobile, Orange, whatever, then all O2 would do it change the price of the iPhone to wipe the floor with it. Or keep it unchanged and continue to obliterate the competition like they did with the G1 on T-Mobile. SO, by giving it to O2 instead, they've guarenteed that O2 have to 'play fair' and not favour one or the other. Although I imagine the iPhone will still take priority as usual.
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for. |

Could be the rest of the networks simply cannot afford it. Or Palm have done the research they need to do and decided O2 is the best network to go for |
