My phone sent a text containing my IMEI number to an application |

Yesterday, I looked at an application on my phone called SMS Preview, Not sure what it is but i clicked on continue and my phone sent a text message.
It was sent to +46737494050
After looking in my sent messages it says:-
action, initialize, action, app, smspreview, app, IMEI, my IMEI was inserted here, IMEI, phonenumber, phonenumber.
Quite worried about this.

This is a great app that comes with the phone, it flashes up SMS without you even touching the phone, so you can read that at ease without having to close anything or when it's on a desk at work etc.
To activate it though, the program needs to send one international sms, it says international although it only cost me about 15p so nothing to worry about.

Just downloaded it frm the web. In the write up with link. It says upgrade to a version that tells u the name of unknown numbers. Whats that mean?

But i want to know why it sends them you're IMEI number? That shouldn't be given out to anyone! |

I guess it needs to send this number as it is used to register your individual device, I really wouldnt worry about it too much, I have been using the program for 2 months and found it very useful and no problems have arisen. |

Is there anyway that anyone can block a phone with an IMEI? or get it blocked? |

I don't think you can block a phone using it's IMEI without the receipt as proof that it belongs to you. Most mobile retailers will have the phone registered to you and your address when you buy it anyway. |

yes the phone can be blocked by any network operator provided they have the phone's imei. normally the network operator requires proof of ownership and it is done commonly on reported stolen handphone...

I think it very weird that this application "SMS Preview" Makes your phone send them an SMS containing your phones IMEI number.
My mobile is not registered to me, Because i bought it on Ebay.
Just don't like the thought of this application having my IMEI number because i never gave them permission to do so. |

You'll find the IMEI is used to register all sorts of software. It's a unique number for that device, which will stop piracy by getting a single code and using it multiple times.
I really wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure if someone was out to try and screw you over by getting your phone blocked, they'd be out to do even more worse things to you.
Anyone could look at your phone and enter *#06# to get the IMEI (well, unless you have an N900 which is the first phone I've ever seen that doesn't work - something that technically makes it non-GSM compliant).

Ive had Symbian phones for years which have recorded the phones IMEI number and sent it when activating the software. I shouldnt worry about it at all.
Besides SE wouldnt allow the app to be installed on phones from the factory floor if they believed it was dodgy.
