Orange promises end to crackly mobile phone calls (Telegraph.co.uk)
Orange, the UK's third largest mobile phone operator, will next year launch high definition (HD) voice calls which promise to provide "crystal clear" sound quality.

I reported on this a few months back it was supposed to be up and running this year. Apparently you need a HD voice phone but you will still notice the difference without one. I always said Orange provide the best call clarity of the lot. Will this use more bandwidth? Also it can only be used on 3G which might cause more moaning if people dont have coverage. Plus yes i just read it does use up more bandwidth

As bono said, if you have no 3g coverage, then its pointless, and not everybody will EVER have a compatible phone, its not going to work

If they have to pay extra for it then customers wont bother. Orange call clarity sounds almost as good as a landline anyway its that good. T Mobile come a close 2nd for call quality too as they also use EFR(Enhanced Full Rate) for better call quality. I think its good i would love to have it but if not everyone has 3G where they live its kind of useless. Also despite Orange having generally good 3G coverage i don't think any network covers as much as they say with their 3G coverage in reality. I wonder if the 900mhz networks can also do this? O2 has great call quality but with a slight rustic sound.
