I don't think this was ever confirmed but the manager of the SE UK eShop replied to an email there now:
Hi Mr Hamilton,
W have a very limited number of P800 in stock tomorrow of which you are to be allocated one, the order will go on a next day but it will depend on when they arrive from the freight forwarders as to weather we can despatch tomorrow. If we are unable to then it will go Wednesday on a next day delivery to Northern Ireland.
The Uk P800 is slightly different stock, you are correct in saying that the camera id different, it will have a Zoom function and will have a night vision function as well, the memory is the same as the specified spec.

well i hope this is true, as those function would be quite cool and orange might have alot of un happy customers if they got p800's that are different from the uk spec p800
we shall just have to wait and see.

wow, that's kool, glad i haven't got one yet, the orange customers will be pissed though, as will people from other countries, is this really true?! |

i think its just a new software version, but i will just be in the retail version of the uk p800 from the start isn't of you having to upgrade |

They don't mention anything about this on their web site.
M8 of mine works for SE, will ask him to find out. Would hate to get a P800 when they are released on O2 only 2 find out a week later they are releasing a better version.
i wonder if they will release a 3G version of this phone.

Ive got an Orange one, and I'm very happy with it, but I also have one of the first eshop ones on order, which sounds like it will probably arrive this week.
I don't want two, but I could cancel the eshop or the orange one... damn....

i dunno but having ordered the normal orange version instead of this claimed 'enhanced version' I spect I could take it back under the sale of goods act claiming it was unsatisfactory goods, althought it is my first contract not an upgrade so i have 14 days anyway |

I seriously doubt a software update would add nightvision.
The lens would have to pick up infra red frequencies then wouldn't it?
The zoom should be possible though.
I've seen some rather expensive sony digital cameras with nightvision... |

During one of my conversations with SE they told me the reason for the delay was that they were testing out video capture which would be a standard feature in the UK version  |
