Sounds like what I did to my previous phone - Nokia 5210 - first day after I've bought it.
I wanted to get some great photoshots of it and made it stand in the window with a great scenery behind (2nd floor).
Accidently nudged it and it fell right on a couple of rocks...
Only visible damage was a tiny tiny scratch in the corner of the screen, could only be seen if you were searching for it.
Next day I got to the store and said "It seems as the screen does the same as the 8210, glitch in the display".
The girl behind the counter looked at it. Wrote down the IMEI and gave me a new one.
Good that Nokia makes less good phones so I can blame the most common damage
