Okie dokie pokie... For all you T630 users, hes a short guide on how to replace the covers (If you decide you wanna get that sexy black cover, or simply change to white cos that t-mobile logo is annoying you )
Clicking all the pics will give you a spangly big image.
First off: This will void your warrenty, and should only be done by people with knowledge of how to use a screwdriver.
Tools:
1. You'll need a spare housing. I got mine off eBay. These do not come with keypads or power buttons, so youll have the wrong colour ones for the phone
2. A Torx T6 screwdriver. Available from places like maplins.
3. A pointy thing (I just used a pointy small screwdriver thinghymajigga.
The magic to replacing the case:
(Im doing this in reverse order. I own a black T630, but put the White cover on, and am now taking it off )
First slide the battery cover off the phone (pretty simple)
Then take the rubber antenna cover off, and then the camera bit. These just lift straight up off the housing.
Next come the two hardest bits:
The top back bit, needs lifting up at the bottom because it has two little clip style thing on it.
Just ram your "pointy thing" into the hole left by the missing camera cover, and lift the very bottom of the case off the housing, and push the whole thing upwards. (Anyone know an easier way?)
The inbuilt aerial is kinda fiddly too. Just stick your pointy thing in the top, near the power button, and lift up. This should unhook one of the hooks, and then you can simply lift the aerial up and away from the phone
You can now access the four screws holding the front of the case onto the phone. Unscrew all of them, and the front cover will simply pull away with a bit of force.
Thats how to remove the outer case. I didnt remove the mainboard from the remaining bit of the housing, simply because the replacement part on the case off ebay isnt the best quality, as i will explain now:
Right, so you've put your new case on, and marvel at your new phone!
But on closer expection, you realise its not made of the same great materials as the original, and is clearly a fake cover.
In many places it doesnt fit well to the phone at all, leaving holes and gaps:
So its not the best of covers, and having seen the case fitted and on the phone, im less than impressed. Im not saying don't buy a replacement housing, just wait for real ones to become available.
And no doubt, ill be spraying mine a nice shade of pink in the near future

I noticed the new housing doesn't have the mirror attached. Any tips on how to remove the mirror from the original faceplate and putting it on the new one, without causing damage?
That would be much appreciated! |
