This thread is to discuss the general topic of changing usernames.

To discuss your personal username, please continue in the following thread. The Changing Usernames Advice Thread

Do we think people should be allowed to change there usernames for the sake of it? As Vlamm stated here
I would have to agree, even though i did it but we shouldnt do it for no reason.

it is a bit confusing when people with high post counts change there name, as it appears that there is a new member but they already have 500+ posts.

well to start with question 2: i vote yes... but since you have posted so much now as trigga perhaps others might get confused.

question 1: I really really do not see the 'fun' in changing usernames. Now for example orangeman/wapchimp I can understand... he named himself after his site (or wap site)
This I can somehow remember (or at least try to) and serves some purpose I guess.
I will still be caling him orangeman for years to come but that's because i am used to calling him that.

But leksandfan/leks, lynx/trigga jojo/jn to name a few recent ones..... I'm afraid there is no real way for me to remember who is who. Suppose all 44000 members would go change their username tomorrow. Wouldn't we all be very very very lost?

And if you get to change your name for no reason but being 'bored with the old one'... then what is to say you won't get bored with the new one at some stage? And change again? And again?

Now change all you like but don't start giving a hard time to those who simply cannot be bothered to remember it all.

this is a HUGE forum. You cannot expect everybody to know who you are. Especially not if you change your name. You're lucky i recognized your sig coz otherwise i would have never known.

Perhaps people should be given a new account with 0 posts for each new name... and have the old one deleted

I think that might make it a LOT less popular to change it

I just thought this name was better.

No real reason though. Thats why im thinking of going back to Lynx69 so people recognise me and asking people of they think its better that people can only change username if they have a satusfactory reason.

[EDIT] I completely agree with Vlamm

or make it neccessary to put in your sig, Trigga69 formally know as lynx for a set period of time, this is what orangeman did i think.

Names doesnt count so much, more the effective presence and good behavour on esato. But to be respected and to be welcome for older and newer members u have to keep to your chosen name, just as in real life. My 2 sentences, and the truth is maybe somewhere between them, are total different points, but i can and have to accept both, for an objective result.

i think on an internet forum... where we effectively all look like a piece of text on a white background, with phone to our left... names are just about everything

Vlammetje - I guess each member will be given at least 'one-time-change-username' oppurtunity here at esato! In my case, I originally intended to have the 'Jojo' username as it is my real 'cutie' name ! Though it was already taken After been on board for 10 months now, I just can't find even a single member posting having that username , the closest to date was Mojo-Jojo, looks like from the power-puff girls toon show

Yup! Maybe just a one-time change will do, though the member will try to make up his/her mind on the 2nd one as it would just be his/her last . . .

I see some having changed theirs for quite a number of times already, perhaps 3 or 4

i see no reason why everybody should be given a 'one time change your username' included in their membership. Seems a bit overdone to me.
