Vodafone V800 and mp3 ringtones? |

I know this has been/is an issue ith Vodafone branded handsets but does anyone know if the workaround with the DRM packager can be used for the V800? I did try last night but didn't really know what I was doing and it didn't seem to work. Are there some specific settings to try? Or have Vodafone got wise to this and closed that loophole? |

It worked for me, I used DRM Packager 1.2. Now I can use my mp3s as ringtones. |

If it was for the V800 then please let me know what settings you used. I tried using the latest version (1.21) and couldn't get it to work. I left all the other settings alone and tried both the forward-lock and combined delivery options (just set today's date for the combined delivery start date) and both created a .dm file but this wasn't played by the phone when I copied it across.
I found one or two threads about using this method for the K700 but got the impression that latest f/w might have stopped it working? |

I didn't change any settings in the program, I just choose, add file... chosed the mp3 that I Wanted to change to A .dm file and pushed the button "Create DRM Content" then it was finished. And yes I used the .dm file on A V800. |

Off the Sony Ericsson developer website at http://www.sonyericsson.com/developer where you need to register (free) and then go to the docs and tools tab and under miscellaneous you will find the drm packager.
I'll try a different file and see if it was just mine being funny. I think the first time I tried it the phone would play the file in the media player but not as a ringtone.
Weird - now it seems to work fine! I did use a different method to set it as the ringtone this time though. I had played it once in the media player and had then exited and gone into the my items folder, found the file and then clicked more, Use, set as ringtone and it seems to work fine. Previously I had tried to set the ringtone from within the ringtone menu (and I might not have played it first which I think might be what engages the rights?).
Anyway - I just used the standard forward-lock setting and it worked.

I think that you need to save the ringtone in the internal memory instead of the memory stick. Thatīs the way I got it to work anyway.

Worked fine with mine when I saved to stick. Not sure what I did wrong the first time! |

Hi all,
Just got my V800 yesterday and have already spent about 2 hours trying to set an MP3 as a ringtone, without success. I've followed all the intructions here - downloaded the DRM Management Packer, successfully added DRM Content and dragged Greece2000.dm across to my phone's memory stick via XP Explorer.
The file seems to cause the phone problems - it will register the file as being there, but the phone hangs for about 20 seconds before it appears (either in 'my items' or ringtones'), and every action I try to take with the file takes the same amount of time. Trying to play it results in a 'playback failed' error. I've tried playing it from the media player and it does exactly the same thing. It appears in the 'sounds' menu with a strikethrough 'key' icon next to it (implying unlocked?).
Anyone got any more plans? I'm really keen on the idea of MP3 ringtones, given how much most polyphonics sound like something off Phoenix Nights. |

Have you tried using another mp3 file instead?
To create the .dm file I simply used the default settings (forward-lock) on the packager. I then copied the file to the memory stick (the audio directory) via USB. I then disconnected the USB, browsed in the phone to my items and found the ringtone, played it to make sure it worked and then set it as the ringtone using the right soft key menu.
If you follow each of those steps then at which point does the phone hang for 20 seconds? |

Please can somebody tell me where to get the packager from? I have checked the web site but seem to be missing it somehow.

Nokia offers a similar DRM tool on their developers site which allows you to create DRM wrappers for your mp3 files. These files work also on Sony Ericsson models. For a tutorial how it works with this tool check this link: http://www.quasimondo.com/archives/000521.php#howto |
