Using SEARCH on this forum |

Is it me or are the "use the search" messages left by many people really quite annoying?
Not being funny but I have used the search facility a few times and almost never found what I'm looking for. Then I post then someone blurts "use the search". Everytime I put in a word over there on the left, it brings up like 1000 results, about k700's and all manner of other things. Using the search isnt as easy as all that plus its major time consuming and I'm at work and cant sit through sifting search reults!
Now I'm not saying dumbass questions are acceptable, like "whats the difference between P900 and P910" but other less common stuff may well get reposted a few times but then info changes too, perhaps what was the best program for XYZ last month is no longer the same this month. So is there a more econmical way to search these forums??

I think the "use the search" replys are quit ok seeing that on other forums you get flammed and get warnings ...
So I think we should be happy that it's not like this

* An asterisk is the truncation operator. Unlike the other operators, it should be appended to the word, not prepended.
" The phrase, that is enclosed in double quotes ", matches only rows that contain this phrase literally, as it was typed. |

Have you tried it this way? (you mentioned only 'one word') Also you can choose the forums which to search in..
And 'use the search' in this forum is very friendly especially when the related thread is linked..

I was tempted to do that too
instead I'll just repeat that I think the search is fine and I use it many times every day and always find what I am looking for
as for people posting "use the search"... I guess it does come across as being harsh but I just wish people who say "use the search" also posted some search results to
a) prove that they could find the answers with search and
b) be helpful in their reply

Perhaps if you're at work you should spend more time doing your job and save browsing until you have time?

As someone suggested to ADD the " + " sign when doing a search, specially if it's a very LENGTHY topic/title ! Say, cherry + apple + banana + pears + pineapple + syrup + whip cream (when searched, will result to) = Fruit Salad ! |

I've got to agree with frontman here.
With the amount of threads does it seem a little difficult to find what you're looking for even with "+" "-".
But it's still better than nothing.
