All the rumored phones (k700i upgarde aka clara) have a usb port at the bottom of the phone. Pop port has being removed. While the charger goes to the right hand side (middle) of the phone. Where would the external accesories like radio and others go.

The advantage of usb is that is plug and play. Just plug in the usb to any compatible device.

If pluged in a computer, the pc recognizes the phone as an external hard disk for data storage. No bluetooth software required.

I think such usb's would be compatible with most of the devices like printer and all.

And with the mmc card (hopefully should support upto 1gb) would be great. You would get an portable hard disk in terms of a mobile phone.

I guess that would open a whole new arena of drivers development for the devices, eh?

The USB port would have to be a host USB port for you to be able to connect devices to it as you suggest. I have no idea what plans but I previously had the i-mate SP3i and currently have the i-mate JAM and Moto V3 which all have usb ports (mini usb in fact) and all require drivers/activesync to be preloaded onto the pc before the pc can do anything with them and these are not recognised as hard drives at all. The V3 is initially recognised for its modem component and the i-mate devices are recognised by activesync so you can set up a partnership

I like the mini USB approach and indeed the sznc/charge cable that came with my V3 could also sync and charge the i-mate devices and can be used to transfer maps etc to my Garmin Quest. If all devices could operate on normal USB to mini USB I'd be very happy!

Well i had a z1010 for a while (not sure about v800) and it has a usb port, the thing is that you still had to install the drivers included on the cd...
now i'm quite active on m.r also and i saw that eldar said that about the plug & play connectivity, he was also very very sure about it so you might have something there....

A USB port on new/soon to be released phones is good news to all of us. But I agree with shyam335, I doubt if Sony would agree if started using another memory card format aside from their own.

If SE gets rid of the traditional SE Port on the bottom, then it will take away a big part of Ericsson.

I mean, its been around since the old Ericssons, and has changed in size, but its still been there.

Now the other big players are deicding to addapt a "One accesory (sp), fits all" concept.

It will be the end of a SE/Ericsson era if they remove the little port, cause IMO, they are great.

Better than the stupid Nokia Pop Ports too.

I disagree. the current style of connection port requires too many exposed metal connectors which over time become oxidised and dirty and cause connectivity problems as often documented here on Esato

mini-USB is a much cleaner and more reliable and generic solution

I think if they are going to chagne it, they need to introduce it over a few years.

Imagine the people around the world that could be left with worthless bits for their phones.

I mean, these accesories arn't cheap, and it will take time for the new style to get out around the world.

Just my Opinion though.

unfortunately businesses tend not to work like that. accessories are only claimed to be compatible for the device you bought them for and they are not future proof. no company can guarantee the future proofness of any product bought today

perhaps they, or a 3rd party, could come up with a usb to old-style-connector adaptor?

btw, have we seen a pic of any rumoured phone which a USB port? I certainly haven't so all this could be redundant chatter anyway

Well its good to see what other people think about certain topics anyway.

I mean, I was actually just thinking about how good the bottom ports are today.

Then this came up. IMO, without the port, the phones will loose their... I dunno, SE feel.

Yeah, now would be great. But I think in the changeover, they shouldn't just get rid of the port staight up.
