Sony Xperia SL revealed
19 August 2012 by Olav Hellesø-Knutsen The 1.7 GHz dual core Sony Xperia SL Android smartphone is not official announced, but the technical specifications are available at the Sony Mobile web site
The Sony Xperia SL is an upgraded version of the flagship model Xperia S which was released earlier this year. Xperia SL has almost the same specs as the Xperia S. Sony has chosen to upgrade the processor by changing the 1.5 GHz MSM8260 Qualcomm Snapdragon with a higher clocked 1.7 GHz MSM8260 Snapdragon processor. It is the first time we see a 1.7 GHz dual core processor from Qualcomm in a smartphone. The 4.3 inch display with 720 x 1280 HD resolution and 341 PPI put the Xperia SL on top of the list of smartphones with the highest pixel density on any smartphone available today. The other two are Xperia S and Xperia Acro S. Contrary to the official specs for the Xperia S, we also notice that Sony this time report the correct amount to internal storage. 27.8GB are installed and 25.8GB are available for user data and this is identical to installed memory on Xperia S as well. There are no words about battery capacity but we a guessing the Xperia has the same 1750 mAh battery also found in Xperia S. Compared to the Xperia S, the 8 hour and 30 minutes talk time has increased with one hour while standby time has decreased from 450 to 420 hours. We doubt it, but Sony Xperia SL could very well be upgraded in more ways than we have listed here. Components for accessing internal storage as well as a quicker RAM access time is something Sony could have changed without announcing this to the public. Xperia SL is shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Sony wisely do not promises any future free updates to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Sony Xperia SL highlights

This is worse than the HTC Sensation -> Sensation XE "upgrade", atleast you got better headphones and some UI tweaks in the package as well as a Beats by Dre badge that added snob value. With Xperia S -> SL its a CPU overclock and thats it seems, they could've saved money and just overclocked the XS to 1.7GHz and fixed the ICS update bugs through a SW update rather than release a pointless new model. Doing this is exactly the reason why Sony/SE fell off the top5 manufacturers list, releasing rehashes of models with different names and hardly any difference in spec, i hope when it does go official there will be a clear differentiation between this and XS. chunkybeats12 years, 3 months ago I hope they will modify the camera lens a little as it uses a cheaper lens than the iphone 4s which uses the same sensor but this beast is a 12mp camera and with an improved lens could make this a worthy upgrade! razec12 years, 3 months ago give it an RX100 sensor and that "L" thing will be more justified
Xperia SL = Sensor Large [ This Message was edited by: razec on 2012-08-20 13:10 ] jplacson12 years, 3 months ago I wish they'd continue the partnership w/ Zeiss and give all Sony phones excellent lenses.
razec12 years, 3 months ago Now I wonder about that since Sony fully owns the mobile division does it mean they now have full rights to license the Zeiss IP to their mobile phones just as it does with their Cybershots and α? AFAIK Nokia have/had exclusive rights to use CZ manufactured lenses for use on their N-series and the 808. and Sony on the other hand builds their own CZ lens using the IP they licensed from that company.
