Three new phones from Sony Ericsson
7 November 2007 by Olav Hellesø-Knutsen Sony Ericsson today announced the W380 Walkman, W890 Walkman and K660 phone models Information about the Sony Ericsson K660 was leaked earlier this week. Two other models were revealed at a press conference late Tuesday evening. The entry-level model named W380 and the mid-range model W890. The W380 highlights are: Clamshell model with gesture control where alarm and calls are muted by moving the hand in front of the phone. The camera could be better with just 1.3 megapixel resolution. But this is holding the price down of course. W380 support Bluetooth Stereo (A2DP) for stereo transmission to your Bluetooth stereo headset. The design is something slightly different. You probably love it or hate it. Sony Ericsson W890 has approximately the same dimensions as the W800 Walkman model. It is only 9.9mm thin but still has room for a 3.2 megapixel camera. Sony Ericsson has finally started to ship phones models with support for UMTS and EDGE networks. The supported networks by W890 are 850/900/1800/1900 WCDMA 2100, EDGE and UMTS. A 2GB Memory Stick Micro card is included in the package. The K660 is promoted as a Web-optimised phone. It has Google Maps for Mobile pre-installed. HSDPA for fast downloading but only a 2.0 megapixel camera. All Sony Ericsson K-series models are usually promoted as a Cyber-Shot phones, but the word Cyber-Shot is not mentioned at all in the press release. What about my 16mill colour mark? On 30 Nov 13:56 tim wrote agree with most here. ive got a w810i and havnt upgraded yet because SE havnt made a better all round phone! w960i seems to be next for me On 22 Nov 20:32 lc wrote will SE ever get the point to start integrating WiFi into their phones as nokia does????? On 21 Nov 01:29 tommo wrote It is a mega shame that this handset does not have flash for recordng videos in the clubs, especially as Walkman customers are more likely to go out to a music venue. However, that is the only flaw with this phone, it is beautiful and kicks the hell out of the competition... wait till you get it in your hand guys before making judgement. The other manufacturers have not got anything this good for at least a year. On 19 Nov 03:35 jomz wrote yup w810 has autofocus better wait again w960 will be the next target On 16 Nov 23:59 AnnieC wrote I love the new se w890 coz its slim and i have a k800i se it's also have a 3.2 mega pixel with auto focus, best pic and the thing i hate about it is it's very lagging when i put music video in it! I sometimes regret buying it but looking at its camera i think it worth buying also! On 16 Nov 08:28 razec wrote The most interesting mid-ranged/mid-high end phones so far in SE :) On 15 Nov 12:16 youcef wrote dd On 12 Nov 14:25 Kulorex wrote Honestly, i was getting aroused by my curiousity but later its started diminishing as i read on to find out that there is no auto-focus of flash light on the w890. i could have been a lovely phone but again SE failed this time. It really don't make much of a marketing strategy anymore since people buy phone not based on their functions only but others buy for its design or for some other reason. I think people like us who love the blend of 'walkman' and 'cyber-shot'; SE should provide a handset dedicated to our own sector too. i mean thats why, k750, w800 and w810 are preferred by most SE and non-SE users. Wake up SE. Provide us with something of our own segment in the overall market! On 11 Nov 06:03 pixantz wrote looks like SE has a really tough time providing Auto Focus. C'mon SE, you dont need to steal the fun out of things like this. And when are we going to start getting 16million colours?? Hope SE has heard of it yet. Luv my W810i anyways. On 9 Nov 06:30 Farhan wrote W890 should have atleast 5MP camera. On 9 Nov 00:00 gothicman wrote ohhh not auto focus nottttttttttttttt auto focus On 8 Nov 15:35 Brightspark wrote how about some new designs, for once? On 8 Nov 11:32 Qasim wrote W890 great phone. It has all that i was expecting in my W880 except Flash! Please Ericsson provide standard 3.5mm jack, steel body but slim and light,3.2 mega pixel camera with auto focus, viberation responded music.please please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On 8 Nov 11:11 Southpark wrote Sigh.....when are they gonna build a replacement for the K810i in the dimensions of the W890i? On 8 Nov 02:28 hanugro wrote Gerry it depend on where you are. In my country there is no unlimited HSDPA and it start around us$25 for 1GB. For the same amount of money I can get unlimited cable modem (despite much slower). I use wifi in my home so I can surf using the phone in my room if the phone has wifi. I don't insist on wifi myself. For me the phone should give at least 1 day of heavy use with 1batt before charging. If SE manage to put wifi, gps, hsdpa and still get good batt performance then why not. But if not, I agree that gps and wifi can be left behind. On 8 Nov 01:34 REO wrote I LOVE MY W810 !!!!! AF BABYYYYY............. On 8 Nov 00:05 Gerry wrote WHY DO YOU NEED WIFI WHEN YOU HAVE HSDPA??? seriously, i think most people just buy phones based on stats. no-one needs wifi anymore with HSDPA. for as little as €7 (£5) a month, you can have unlimited internet access added to your talk plan. the average wi-fi connection is 1-2Mb but HSDPA is 1.8-3.6Mb... DO THE MATHS!! On 7 Nov 22:42 Anonymous wrote I need WiFi!!! On 7 Nov 20:23 Praveen wrote W810 has auto focus.. On 7 Nov 19:20 CrazyMonkey wrote SE at their BEST!!! What about those of us that are loyal SE customers but not into the W series? I have to agree with HAJLAJ and say LAME!!!!! On 7 Nov 13:17 HAJLAJ wrote Thats lame..... W890 is terrible, K660 looks cheap but still buyable (for low end costumers ofc) K810 and W880 are the only phones that makes me proud to like SE On 7 Nov 12:15 lime wrote sweet... On 7 Nov 08:12 Prom1 wrote EXCELLENT ... finally a slim SE phone that has GPRS & EDGE in quadband as standard! I think I'll pick this up before the K850i . On 7 Nov 06:49 aldrinus wrote AF is indeed inherent in SE's Cybershot series because its their primary feature: camera. It would be a bonus is SE Walkmans would have this particularly important camera feature! Great SE models for the current market, though. On 7 Nov 05:15 MuhummadOli wrote Looks like autofocus is becoming a Cybershot only feature... |
